Dim Sum Done Right

This is one of the best dim sum restaurants at which I've ever eaten. Of course, there's the standard dim sum fare common to all, but the execution of those dishes is exceptional here. Simple---go there--- Went for tea(dim sum) 10/8/14 with some friends/business associates. Enter, clean parking lot, got up elevator--impression was clean, large, a lot of activity, not too loud. Pickled cucumber, tea, wait staff there with dishes FAST. Hungry, so wolfed down very tasty items. I wish they would have brought the hot steamed items as rapidly. Clams/black bean sauce-BBQ Bao-Seaweed... More

We were looking for some dinner after checking into our hotel. The Ocean Star was a short walk from our hotel which was very convenient. The fried rice, broccoli beef, eggplant & Chinese broccoli were all delicious and the price was reasonable - about $50.

Whenever we visit LA, we head right to Ocean Star for the best Dim Sum I have ever had! The wonderful variety allowed us to not only indulge in dumplings of all shapes, sizes and fillings, but also we had veggies and veggie delights - what a wonderful experience that we look forward to going again and this time bringing... What happened?! This place use to be my go to dim sum back in the days. A couple Sundays ago I decided to revisit this place and OMG how depressing! We got there at close to 2pm and we just walked right in (good sign right?). We sat down, got our tea, and then that was it...for the longest time... More

I think I like the overall experience here better than I like the food. It is an interesting place with good friendly service and they seem to be very organized. But there was no one dish that my brother or I absolutely loved. Most of the food was pretty good but nothing was outstanding. Also the way things were priced... More

The dim sum is good here.... notice the adjective 'good', not great but good. The service is EXCELLENT. The ladies pushing their carts strive to provide great service. Washroom's are quite clean and plenty of ample parking. Come early (restaurant opens @ 9AM) it fills up pretty quickly. Dim Sum Items are relatively inexpensive, family of 4, total bill was... More

We went here because the restaurant opened early on Sunday morning, 9 am. People were waiting to get in, mostly Asians. Always a good sign. The dim sum carts were stacked up high. You can choose from multiple dumplings including Shanghai which are full of juices and served in tiny tin cups. You can also point to pictures on a... More

Have visited Ocean Star many times on travels to LA. It is always the go to place for a wide variety of authentic dim sum. For lunch go early when the carts are freshly stocked and plentiful otherwise you will find yourself waiting excessively for your choices to come around on the carts. Very very large dining area...wait is never... More

I really enjoyed several events here? The food is very good. Service is fast and it is more like a cultural experience. I really enjoy Asian cousin and this is a great restaurant to try a variety of asian dishes. Including chicken feet with black bean sauce! MD
