Shades of Yesteryear - A Trip on the Wayback w/o Peabody!

OK - to explain the title: I was stationed at the Presidio, DLI, for a year in 1969-70, when this establishment was "O-B's -- O'Briens Tavern." Other than being immediately (10 feet) outside one of the gates to the Presidio, O-B's main claims to fame were: excellent burgers reasonably priced... read more

Whenever I get to the Monterey area, I make it a habit to stop at Duffy's. I've been going there for years and have tried many things on the menu. This time I ordered a VERY rare cheeseburger and that's exactly what I got. They don't try to tell you that the law says that they "have" to cook it... More

We visited Duffy's Tavern & Family Restaurant the first week of May 2015 to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday. He told me that this tavern is more than a place to go and have a drink or some delicious food, it's the Presidio institution. Every weekend you can find dozens of students from the Presidio, regulars and locals who are part... More

Stopped in to check it out before committing to host an event at Duffy's. The service was friendly by no nonsense, the food (turkey and bacon melt sandwich with sweet potato fries) and beer were excellent, and the atmosphere was fun. The place was full of regular, local customers who all knew the servers, and who were all known as... More

Wishing to avoid the usual Fisherman's Wharf restaurants? Find your way up Franklin St. ....Well worth the hunt! It is hard to believe Duffy's still exists. What used to be a busy street is now a dead end. For security reasons the military closed the entrance to the Monterey Presidio just outside the front door of this place! We ordered... More

Fisherman's Wharf in Monterey was so crowded, we just drove up the next street we could find and let Garmin find us a place to eat. We were thrilled with Duffy's Tavern. The food was great and the special service we received from the staff was superb! Rick's jokes were a bit corny, but we had some to flash back... More

Duffy's is a popular cozy neighborhood pub with a menu that features wings, burgers, sandwiches, entrees, and nightly specials including spaghetti and steak. Good food, and the club sandwich was large enough for 2-3 people. Although there are tables and booths, it's fun to sit at the bar and converse with the friendly locals, wise-cracking wait staff, and Rick the... More

Based on the Tripadvisor rating of 203/210 I probably would have never even considered eating here. I hesitate to write this review because I really don't think the folks at Duffy's want to be "discovered". I've been in California for about a week, staying in hotels, eating in touristy and neighborhood restaurants, and would say without hesitation, this was the... More

This is basically a military hangout and of course that is not a bad thing but when you get a little older you appreciate a friendly attitude and at least considerate service. I hate to write a review like this but Duffys deserves it. I have no idea why the owners have not replaced the wait staff by now unless... More
