American Burger was started in August of 2009 by the Miguel family. Prior to this, the Miguels ran a Mexican restaurant before recognizing the need for a high-quality, easy-going burger joint on Lighthouse. Proud immigrants from El Salvador, they named the new restaurant "American Burger" in honor of their own pursuit of the American entrepreneurial dream

Meh

We thought this was a good alternative price-wise to eating at the Aquarium, but the food was just okay, nothing special. The burgers were still pricey considering that they came with no sides (not even fries for almost $8!). The condiments were all sticky bottles, some of them nearly empty and missing caps. Not the best lunch experience.

It was a small joint there was a stage but noone was playing. Margarita had little to no alcohol in them. Just a slushy. They had nice chairs what supported ou backs that were tired after shopping all day. Burgers were good.

Nice little place that makes a delicious burger and the fries are cooked to perfection. Staff is very friendly and lots of locals hang around there as well.

In previous years this location has had several different owners and offerings of food. The present owners have topped all the previous businesses with great food on their menu. Parking is out front. The exterior looks pretty simple, however when you enter there is sort-of an old fashioned malt shop look. The owner-cook serves up the best tasting real burgers... More

I was staying in Monterey with my friend and heard about this burger from someone- It appeared like every other burger joint, but I was really surprised how much I liked this 'crazy burger'. It had jalapeños, peanut butter, grilled onions, and was cooked perfect! I have spent forever trying to find a place that has a similar burger, but... More

Had a great burger, yummy fries and played checkers but sadly I was beat. Although, my husband won an ice for beating me ;-), so he thought it was great. I would recommend this place to friends! :-) Be back again next time we're here.

I have to be honest - if I hadn't read reviews on here first, I would have driven right last this place. But...so glad we didn't! One of the best burgers I've had in a long time and the chips were perfection! As for the milkshake...I could of just had that for my dinner and I'd have been one happy... More

American Burger satisfies just about all your needs for your visit to Monterey. You and your wallet will leave full. Though my burger didn't have much flavor, the remaining items took care of that (I will note the bland taste of my burger isn't a bad thing. Burgers are like pizza, no matter what everyone has their own preferences). No... More

My daughter, 3 grandsons and I stopped after our visit to the Monterey Aquarium. Was the best burger I've had in a long time. My grandson visiting from Washington loved the jalapeno burger, I had the burger with an egg (forgot he name) OMG good. My youngest grandson had a grilled cheese and he loved that too (he is a...
