Not what you would think of as a place you would want to eat when you see it from the outside; 70's anyone? With that said, no ambiance, but reasonable food at fair prices when you need a bite. They seem to do a brisk take-out business, which is probably their main focus

The meals are delicious! Fast, friendly, efficient service will delight you. The food is good old fashion Chinese family style; that every American town used to have. Yes! many Americanized Chinese food dishes that are delicious, but also many truly ethnic spicy dishes are available. You could even get a cheeseburger, if the kids want one. Full bar is available... We were regulars here in the 70s and nothing's changed. Same menu, chairs, tables, statues...you know what you're getting, because it's the same as you got. Dependable, fairly fast: a Chinese equivalent of a NY deli.

We ordered the Special Wonton soup plus noodles. The soup had lots of goodies: wontons, pork, shrimp, noodles, & veggies. We also had the garlic egg plant w/ pork & tofu....Yum😃 The food was delicious and our server Cindy did us well. The ambiance: a Chinese diner,

After a meeting, our group wanted a quick and simple lunch. Chong's menu has number for each lunch dishes. Each of us submitted a number for our order. Orders came quick and simple. The price for each order was economical. The prices range from$6.95 to $9.95, excluding tax and tips. It was Saturday and the restaurant was packed during lunch... More

I love all kinds of Asian food but when growing up the only type available was the local Chinese - American diners. Now I prefer Thai or Vietnamese but every so often I get a hankering for old school Chinese...you know, egg foo young over white rice, sweet and sour pork etc. I find that Chong's is reasonably priced, tasty... My husband and I met friends for dinner at Chong's. (There were 8 of us) We were at a round table with a spinner in the middle; we each ordered a plate and shared all the food so we made our own buffet. The eggplant dish and the garlic shrimps were our favorites. Everything else needed soy sauce as it... More

Took family to this chinese place and was not disappointed. We ordered the dinner special that they add items for each person past two and the amount of food was astounding. Fried rice that was NOT greasy! Sweet and Sour port that was crisp and delicious. Soups was great. All enjoyed and we took home a lot of food for... More

We found the food to be very good and service quick and courteous. It is basic but it doesn't try to be anything it is not! The menus were very clear and the prices very economical. The portions were enormous, which would be OK if you wanted a doggy bag to take out, but for normal eating were too big.... More

Really the only major pluses are that it is right downtown, cheap by Monterey standards and service is quick. On the downside, the food is very so-so, tends to be standard items a little heavy on the side, oily side, old looking decor and noisy. Not really up to the level of good Chinese, but at these prices we are... More
