Three of us had dinner at the Monterey Cookhouse a few nights ago, and for the first time encountered a menu item called "The Beast"...a big burger topped with cheese and onion rings plus a quarter pound of marvelously tender beef brisket. Hint: if you remove the onion rings and set them aside you can actually take a bite out... More

My boyfriend and I ate here during our stay in Monterey and were so happy to find this gem within walking distance of our motel. We split a stuffed mushroom appetizer and a margherita pizza. He also ordered a beer from the bar. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was inviting. There were many families around us though it... More

We (party of 5) stopped in on a Friday night, because the signage out front caught my eye, and the menu appealed to everyone in the family (not an easy feat for our family). The service seemed slow, and the waiter admitted that when he approached the table, and let us know they were short-handed. BUT, that never became an... More

Just two minutes walk from Lone Oak Lodge where we were staying on vacation in June 2014. Service was a little slow but was very friendly and all our questions were honestly answered. We visited on a Friday evening and they were busy... For us Europeans, it was really great American food, outstanding in fact. We particularly enjoyed the "Smoked... More

They have a gluten-free menu and were more than willing to use the gluten-free bread I brought with me when I ordered a hamburger. They could also make suggestions on other entrees and happily made modifications to accommodate my allergies. The food was very fresh and we never had a disappointing meal here. The wait staff is friendly and knowledgeable.

Everything was perfect. Fantastic, fresh food at a reasonable price. The ambiance, the staff, the food presentation is all what you would expect from a 5-star restaurant. I can't praise this place enough. Our server was a master at the upsell , so be careful of that, but he did it respectfully and not pushy. Very highly recommend this restaurant.

We went here during happy hour and ended up ordering three different appetizers. Drinks were good, food was good, and service was good. Next time we'll try having dinner there.

The smell was amazing when we walked in--oak-fired grill. Stick with the menu items cooked on the wood-fired grill. Avoid the deep-fried food, that's not what the restaurant was good at. Everything we had from the grill was amazing--brisket, ribs, shrimp, salmon. The kids' menu was very ho-hum, the same fried junk food as on every other restaurant's kids' menu:... More

Staying just down the road and was recommended a trip to the Monterey Smokehouse - our choice aided by the fact we were given a voucher for a free appetiser! Nothing too exciting to shout about inside, but the food is lovely. Good simple American food, done right. I had the wings, which I created a huge mess with :)... More

Visited this restaurant on the recommendation of our motel host. It was a short stroll from our motel and promised house smoked meat. Service was excellent and the house specialty margarita was delicious. Our clam chowder appetizers were a great start. The mains were the stars however. My pork loin was just divine. My partner chose the brisket which was... More
