Enjoyable Indian Dinner in Monterey - Good Food

We were staying at Asilomar and decided to go for Indian Food in Monterey. The decor and atmosphere of Ambrosia India Bistro is quite nice. We had the Tandoor Mixed Grill, matter paneer, and rice. It was all very nicely cooked and was very flavorful. We thought service was good.

They always have a good selection, with enough varieties that your vegetarian friends will not feel left out. The restaurant is pleasant, and you can enjoy the patio on a nice day in downtown Monterey. It is fairly priced and you will not leave hungry.

I ate at this restaurant with an Asian friend who was a bit reluctant to come here again after a previous visit. In one respect the restaurant was better: the dining room was much smarter than I remember it, and in the inclement weather we had that evening we didn't want to travel further. We had a more spacious table... More

The food was well cooked and reasonably priced. But if you prefer your Indian food to be spicy, you will need to make a special request because as it comes from the kitchen it is somewhat more savory than spicy.

Where to start? The papadums were excellent. I could have eaten nothing but those and the pickled vegetables and been happy. I forget what they were called but the spinach cake appetizer was unique and delicious. Also, don't miss the lamb chop e masala - supurb! And, last, but not least, the best fish curry we've ever had. Can't wait... More

The food and service was below average. And as an Indian, I can tell you this is not 'good' Indian food. It's Indian food, just not good. Something that kind of proves itself from the fact that the restaurant had barely any Indians visiting it.

Didn't expect too much from an Indian restaurant in the USA, after all the best Indian restaurants are now in the UK aren't they? Anyway, while not the best meal I've ever had, it was pretty good. Firstly the chef is Indian, which doesn't necessarily mean the meal will be great but it's a start. There is a reasonable choice... More

Wonderful food and ambience. They take reservations which is nice because it can get very crowded. They were very accommodating and gave us a nice, quiet table. Service is excellent and the food was tasty. We tried the Murgh Malai Kebab, Brown Rice, Garlic Naan, Samosas and the Aloo Gobi. The kebab's and samosas were particularly good. Highly recommend if... We tried Bhindi Masala, Shahi Paneer, Kaali Daal, Lachcha paratha, Tandoori roti - the taste was great! All 4 us loved the food. The service was excellent and quick although it was a Thanksgiving weekend and the restaurant was packed! Overall a great experience!

As you walk up to the restaurant the aroma is amazing. The buffet has many different offerings. The butter chicken; curry chicken and chicken tandoori were all done perfectly. The mushroom masala was our favorite vegetable dish of the day, and the squash and lentils were also very good. The service is excellent as other reviews have stated. This is... More
