Within walking distance of the convention center, this place deserves your effort to walk over and enjoy one of the best breakfasts on the peninsula. Quaint, cozy, family-run and incredible food make this a staple for breakfast fare whenever we are in town, enjoy!

A nice little place on Alvarado St., downtown Monterey. The food was OK, served quickly and hot; the wait-service was good. The cost of breakfast was about normal - close to $30 for two, without tip. I believe that an average restaurant should be "good," and the scale should go up from there. For me, Old Monterey Cafe was just... More

Went here for breakfast with some friends on our way out of town and it was packed on a Sunday morning. Another friend of ours who has lived in Monterey his whole life said it was the best breakfast spot in town, so we didn't mind having to wait 20 minutes to get a table. Our waitress was this older... If you want a homemade breakfast feel with lots of choice, then this is the spot for you. From omlettes to waffles, French toast and scramblers, the possibilities all look yummy. You can choose from hash brown or grits on most meals and a variety of drinks and coffees. The atmosphere is comfortable and the service was attentive and friendly.

Nice cozy place for a great breakfast. Very good coffee and large portions. I had a platter with pancakes, eggs and bacon. I opted for the small platter and could not finish it. The best part was our waitress Delmy, who also gave us help with information about the area.

Stopped in for breakfast, good food, fast service and good selection of menu choices. It was really busy but their service was still very good.

we love this place for breakfast. in the last 3 years, we've only eaten at one other location for breakfast, the breakfast club in seaside. we prefer the Old Monterey Cafe because it's not huge, and we don't feel like we're being herded in and out. when we come here, the staff is great, they have ALWAYS gotten our order... The Old Monterey Café is a great place for a hearty breakfast at a reasonable price. We were there fairly early on a weekday in October, so we had no difficulty getting a table right away. I would guess that during the summer or on a weekend, your experience might be quite different.

I'm always impressed when I show up somewhere as part of a large party (in this case 20 some-odd people) and service is good. Drinks were refilled, orders were taken quickly and food came out fast and service was great. Plus the food was tasty, the menu large and it was all cheap. just be prepared to deal with annoying...
