Three of us went for lunch yesterday. Arrived around 1 and only had to wait a couple of minutes for a table. The place was packed. Each of us had a cup of the clam chowder. It was a little too thick for me but a nice flavor. We ordered the jambalaya, hot crab sandwich and a crab louis salad... More

This is a great restaurant for for all kinds of food but we are always drawn to the seafood. Fried calamari is great and so are the other seafood appetizers. The clam chowder is amazing as is the scampi. The steaks are delicious and the desserts are superb. Best place on the wharf.

The clam chowder is one of the best I've tasted here! It's so good! I really wanted to go inside and have dinner but they do not allow strollers inside and my baby was sleeping and I didn't want to wake her. So in the end, we ended up getting clam chowder to go instead. The service with the guy... More

We were given a complimentary appetizer voucher and let the server know. She recommended a couple and then when we offered our voucher we were told it wasn't good for the appetizer selected. It was my wife's birthday so I didn't argue the point but went back the next day to let them know. I was told it was too... More

We have lived in Monterey for about 6 months now and in that time we have enjoyed several places in the surrounding area and have sampled many many different clam chowders. While Fisherman's Grotto has good chowder, it is not enough to ever make me want to set foot in that place again. On Memorial Day weekend, we headed down... More

They advertise their Monterey Clam Chowder as being the best . They are right! It is perfectly seasoned, full of flavor and the texture is perfect. I could not get enough and was so full afterwards but still wanted more. This will become a dish that I plan to have everytime I come to Monterey. Sevice at the restaurant was... More

We sampled each and every clam chowder from one end of the wharf to the other, this one was by far the best! It had just the right amount of fresh clams and garlic. There were so many different ones to try, some had herbal tastes, some had smokey bacon and another all we could taste was onion. We loved... More

It does have a very romantic atmosphere and they really hook it up for a special occasion. It was our 11yr anniversary and they had the linen tablecloth with a candle and rose pedals in a heart shape around it. But unfortunately the food was not very good. We both had steak and lobster(10 oz of each) and a couple... More

I'm not sure who gives this restaurant two dollar signs because it's three. There were some entrees in the 20s but a lot of them were in the 30s. Nothing was spectacular, just ok. Even the bread was not great. You can do MUCH better in Monterey. I hate spending so much on blah food.

We were referred to the Old Fisherman's Grotto on the wharf in Monterrey, CA by the host at our bed and breakfast, who made a reservation for us and gave us a coupon for an appetizer. Sure enough, we had a table for two by a window, shared a generous appetizer of calamari and artichoke, and enjoyed a nice meal... More
