I had been to the Grotto over 30 years ago and came back during a stay recently. I still love the place! Service is fantastic and the Artichoke appetizer is killer. But, by far the best, is the Clam Chowder. I'm not usually a clam chowder fan but this chowder is fantastic! If I ever make it back to the... More

Well to be fair everything on the pier was probably over priced... The waiter was very nice and refills were always given fast. The claim chowder was deliciously not the best but a very close runner up.... The rest was average at best the claim linguine had seven claims and a very water type sauce... The shrimp was awesome but... More

Let's start by saying we had the best waiter in a long time. We tried the artichoke appetizer and fried calamari. Both were excellent. The clam chowder amazing. We had fish dishes for entree -salmon and cod. Both done to perfection.

I’ve come here a few times and have loved it every time. Very nice restaurant with a great view. Seems upscale but is perfect for a day on the wharf. Menu has many choices and everything seemed fresh each time I’ve been. Staff seems friendly and happy to be there. Very appealing décor and interior.

Eat a lunch knowing that I was going to drop $100+ for three. The clam chowder is very good and comparable to the best anywhere. The crab salad was good however at $20 each not sure if its worth it. The crab sandwich was very good. I left satisfied but not impress. You pay for the area.

Living less than 2 hours from Monterey, we have no problem driving from the Bay Area to Monterey for lunch (although friends and colleagues think it's kind of strange). That being said, we visit the area two or three times a year to have a nice lunch and take a stroll through the area. Our normal lunch spot is The... More

The free appetizer (artichoke hearts-deep fried) were something we would not get again although the grilled artichoke appetizer looked very appealing that was served to another table. The deep fry batter overwhelmed the artichoke. The seafood paella was a huge portion, shared with my husband and still had doggie bag left over.

Tourist traps like Monterey's fishermans wharf area don't often include great restaurants. This one is an exception. We ate here twice. Once for luch and returned the next night for dinner. We thoroughly enjoyed both meals. The service was outstanding. Their clam chowder and grilled artichokes were delicious. Everything we ate was well prepared and the servings were large. We'll... Great food really really enjoyed it the next time I'm in town I'm making a b line for it! Service was very good too! Our waiter and the other servers were very delight, always replenished our drinks, and considerate of their guest. One server noticed I was cold sitting under the vent and turned the air down for me, without... More

As you walk along the wharf in Monterey, many restaurants hand out samples of clam chowder to lure you in to their restaurant. Fisherman's Grotto had the best chowder, by far, so we were expecting the dinner meal to match. Didn't happen. My friend's spinach salad was over-dressed. My shrimp scampi didn't have any wine sauce, was very dry. Our... More
