I used to stop here with friends to grab sandwiches for picnic lunches when I was stationed at DLI 20+ years ago. My friend and I stopped on our way out of town to see if was as good as we remembered. It is. Get a half order as it is the size of a regular sandwich other places. Don't... More

I'm in town visiting friends and they took me to this small, hole-in-the-wall deli in Monterey. I ordered a half turkey salami on sourdough and it was FANTASTIC. The owner is so friendly and such a sweetheart. He keeps so any different sodas and chips in stock. Oh, and the desserts are divine! I had a giant slice of chocolate... More

This stalwart grandfather of sandwich places has been around for decades. Wife and I decided to stop in so we could pick up some sandwiches for a whaling trip the following day. They had me at Mortadella. It's my lunch mean kryptonite. We ordered two sandwiches and needed a wheelbarrow to carry them. So we ate one that evening, and... More

We came here based on the reviews in tripadvisor as we knew we wanted to get sandwiches to take to eat by the water. The sandwiches are very large (probably could have fed 2 people) but you paid for it, for sure. Spendy lunch if you get chips and sides. Hard to find.

For some reason all of the military people in Monterey have been obsessed with this place. I think it's because the sandwiches are big or something, because I don't think they are really very good. I think the sandwiches I made myself with deli meat from Safeway were better than the ones at Compagno's. This place is overrated like so... More

I don't know why anyone goes to this place. Bland. Not tasty. Limited choices. No place to sit. Disappointing.

If you are looking for a good sandwich, look no further! This place has become a sunday staple for everyone at my work! Well worth the money and time to travel up the hill. Lunch time can fill the place fast so get there early to get your order in.

We've wanted to try Compagno's Market Deli sandwiches for a while. Last time we stopped by too late and they were already closed. This time, we were sure to arrive at lunchtime. There were already a dozen or so people in the market. We saw the size of the sandwiches before ordering. I ordered a half knowing I couldn't possibly... More

Stood in line with a lot of locals, which is usually a good sign, right? My 2 colleagues were satisfied with their sandwiches. Mine was average. No place to sit and enjoy. Good for take out if you are in a hurry.

This place is THE best sandwich place on the peninsula (and maybe anywhere). I grew up in the area and every time I come home to visit I have to stop here for a sandwich. My husband and I always share a large turkey and that's enough for the both of us. Bennett the owner is awesome and always makes... More
