A friend suggested meeting up here for an early dinner while in Monterey. We walked downtown from our Air B&B to get there at about 5.15pm for their happy hour, which provides good discounts on small plates and the house wines. The four of us ordered 8 small plates between us (everything except the soup...) and there was just the... More

We've lived in Monterey for almost 10 years now and this restaurant has not disappointed even one time. My favorite entrees are the Double Lamb Chop which it is cooked to perfection, juicy and complemented nicely with the hummus, beets, etc, and the Braised Prime Boneless Short Rib...you'll leak the plate (ask for some bread to scrape the sauce). Both... More

Reserve in advance and don't miss this one. Different, yet very inviting menu. Everything was delicious and served to perfection. Easy location to continue downtown Monterey if that suits your fancy. Highly recommend.

Absolutely a place to go. Very professional service and funny location with chalks to write on your table. Food prepared by a prime level chef.

If you're trying to escape tourist and hotel food, here is where you make a reservation. Locals are celebrating birthdays, romance at tables of two in corners, and the gorgeous bar with its sensuous curve definitely calls out to people watching and those just walking in for a cocktail.... We sat by two nearby tables and loved having on/off conversations... More

This restaurant underwhelmed us. The wines were expensive , The pours good. The food strictly mediocre. Not sure how this restaurant got a third rating in Monterey. I certainly would pass this up on my next trip here.

I love scallops and order them often. The seared scallop dish on the menu was described as being served with carrot quinoa--not one of my favorite grains--along with cucumber, raisins, and coconut.Because I enjoy trying new things, I ordered it. Montrio boasts being " cutting edge Californian," and this dish certainly attested to that. The two perfectly seared scallops were... More

Enjoyable dinner after a long day at the Aquarium. The Artichoke appetizer with eggplant was delicious. The Buttermilk Quail was so amazing. The BLT salad was a delight. Presentation was excellent. Nice setting and service, you will have a wonderful dining experience.

I went with three friends and it seems that we all had the same experience, food was OK for all of us, nothing wow, nothing bad, just OK. Service was a bit better then the food. My Salmon was cooked as requested and the kale salad was most likely the best dish of the evening. I am not rushing to... More
