I thought this place was great. The food was just okay. The cheddar bacon biscuits were very good. I would come back because of the location. Love the building and fire pits outside. Don't expect a knock out for food.

Restaurant 1833 has a storied past and they have created a wonderful menu and atmosphere to play up this history. Reminiscent of Apotheke bar in NYC, Restaurant 1833 has a lush drink menu with potions of all sorts. The Shiner is a highlight from the cocktail menu. We had drinks in the library room on the first floor near the... More

The restaurant is very special, and a great place for a small group. We were in a private dining room with a big round table and a fireplace. It was a wonderful experience with great service and wonderful food. Pricing was fair and the experience amazing.

Restaurant 1833 has been my go to restaurant when traveling through monterey for several years. I could take my wife, a client, or friend and they were always impressed with the food, setting and service. Didn't matter if it was the crush of car week or a quiet off-peak night, 1833 always delivered... but lately not so much. May be... More

Finally Monterey has a restaurant that has food as memorable as the scenery. Seriously, I can't get the cheddar-bacon biscuits out of my head. I keep thinking about the hot chrunch of the moist flavorful treat... 1833 is the whole package, from the moment you walk up to the front door past the fire pits and comfortable seating to the... Great building and a fine meal. 1833 is located in an historic adobe in Monterey - the library is a great place to lounge and the bar and outside seating are a rare treat. We tried the following: Deviled eggs - ok not the best I ever had Halibut - sensational Biscuits - very nice Dessert - right on Cocktails... More

Full bar, with many choices, particularly for hard liquor (including absinthe) and cocktails. Pineapple cocktail is delish! Small plates work perfectly with the drinks. Deviled eggs are hands-down the best deviled eggs I've ever had. Sour cream and onion biscuits are great. Chicken liver pate very good but underwhelming compared to the other dishes. Can get a bit crowded and... More

its in an old house. you may be sitting in a bedroom or the front room. I sat at the top of the stairs. You can make a meal off the appetizers. The shrimp appy was one of THE best things I've ever had. I can't think of the exact name of it. Then the bacon cheddar biscuits were also... More

The atmosphere of this restaurant is amazing. Steeped in history, the historic location has been only enhanced with a beautiful design and other details. The menu is perfect "bistro" with some dishes a great success and others just "good". The bacon cheddar biscuits with a maple chile butter were mind boggling while the pork loin a bit tough and bland.... More

We loved our dinner at 1833. We had the best table in the house. Food and service was excellent. We would definitely return.
