Fun and interesting menu

Early dinner with four friends allowed us to sample a number of appetizers, mains and deserts. We brought our own bottle of wine and started with some cocktails that were a nice pour and fresh. The appetizers foie gras, frito misto and halibut tar-tar were all top notch, especially the foie gras... read more

This restaurant hits all the marks and cannot be missed. The warm, inviting atmosphere, unique to each room, offers quirky yet elegant comfort. Each signature cocktail highlights the quality spirit and fresh ingredients. The dishes are creative and excellent. The staff was attentive, not overbearing or pretentious. We will come to this restaurant each time we are in town.

Recently a preeminent San Francisco newspaper restaurant reviewer called Restaurant 1833 the best restaurant in Monterey after the restaurant changed chef and menu. The food was interestingly prepared and presented. For appetizer we had pieces of pork wrapped in a paper thin dough (Tunisian Brik dough) that was deep fried. The dipping sauce was an Asian soy and fish sauce... More

Got recommendations from 2 locals. We should have walked out after looking at the menu. The selections were quite unique, but we decided to try it. We ordered drinks. They were very skimpy for the price. One of our group ordered Absolute orange and club, and specifically asked if they have Absolute Orange. She received Hanger vodka. We ordered the... More

We hadn't been to Restaurant 1833 since it was Stokes Adobe because we moved from the area. We decided to visit Monterey for our tenth anniversary and have dinner at 1833. We were a bit hesitant since the reviews were quite mixed. But, we were glad we ignored the negative comments. We were quite pleased with the ambiance, the food, the... More

I had seen the most magical picture of the interior of Restaurant 1833, with an intriguing bookshelf bathed in golden light above a leather sofa. And so, when a friend asked where I wanted to go to dinner, I said, Restaurant 1833. Oops. The restaurant interior does no look like the glossy marketing photos. The elegant white oversized chairs are... More

Restaurant 1833 had been my favorite Monterey eatery for many years, but fell from favor after a less then memorable evening shortly after its recent re-opening. Last night 1833 definitely earned back my loyalty. It was nothing short of spectacular. The cocktails from Josh at the bar were world class, the dining service from Alex was attentive but not intrusive,... More

Very creative selections from one of the area's top chefs. This is a great destination for foodies. We ordered a good number of the small plates as we found them to be exceptionally tasty, creative and filling. Great wine list to compliment the creative offerings!

A beautiful, historic Monterey building with comfortable seating inside and outside, great drinks, wonderful service, and unusual but delicious food. Chef Franey(from Canlis in Seattle) has put together a creative menu with layers of flavours and textures you might not expect but work very well together. I have a serious food allergy but both Chef Franey and his staff went... More

Drinks - awesome! Food - unbelievable! Desert - no words to describe! We went there for a romantic dinner and I left there impressed with the place. The decoration is very pretty and the staff very friendly. We ordered the spinach dip for starters and it was really good! For dinner we had two of their "Nosh": Fireroasted sunchokes and... More
