Wonderful dinning in the center of Monterey

Lots of atmosphere and great food in a classic Old Monterey building. In my top 3 for Monterey and top 10 for the Monterey Peninsula

My wife and I fell in love with this place. Their patio is beautiful with a bunch of firepits and places to curl up and keep warm as you sip your cocktails. We stayed for dinner and loved everything we ate: The Everything Hawaiian Bread was delicious (think all the toppings from an everything bagel on top of sweet Hawaiian... More

I see what they're going for and it's not working. The physical space is great. A bit dark for my taste, but hey The decor is boutiquey Miami modern in old building. It works. The food is another story. The salmon- terrible.Polenta like gruel. Pasta- salty and looked like it came out of a children's macaroni box. We passed the... More

The food at 1833 was without exception for our party of 4 excellent. I had sweetbreads followed by chicken (something I never order in a restaurant but eat a lot at home, so my wife told me, so of course I ordered it in a restaurant). My wife had duck pastrami and seared salmon. Daughters had salmon tartare and scallops... More

Trying too hard. Not accomplishing enough. Overpriced, small portions trying to fit the foodie profile. Will not return. Old Adobe is nice spot but dark. Service perfectly good. Food pretentious and way overpriced. Drinks even more so. $8 beers in 8 oz. snifters, not a pint. Cocktails...don't even get me started. Merguez (lamb)sausage not bad but on froo-froo bed of... The music is very loud and overbearing, a complete antithesis to the facility. I would say it is intended to please the wait staff and bar staff. When the manager was asked if there is a quieter part of the restaurant the answer was, "No, this is our ambience. You need to go elsewhere if you want a quieter place."... More

We have been to some amazing restaurants in the world; but, 1833 is not one of those who warrant a rating higher than a two star. The building is an amazing historic adobe, grounds are pretty nice as you approach and then you walk into an all but black interior with some color accent here and there. We were seated... More

All encompassing dining experience as the decor, layout, and food are all top quality. A very memorable meal and experience.

Restaurant 1833 is off the beaten path from the rest of the seafood/chowder/steak places that Monterey has to offer. We found this place by asking some locals for a non-touristy recommendation and we're glad we stumbled upon it. If you're a foodie and into craft cocktails, this is your place. The atmosphere is also very neat considering that the building... More

The food was excellent, but the service was awkward. We made reservations to go to Restaurant 1833 for my 30th birthday. When we arrived, the hostess was very cold and it instantly made us a bit uncomfortable. When she took us to our table, seeing that it was very dark and in an awkward corner, we asked if we could...
