We had heard very good things about 1833--enough to want to celebrate a birthday--two birthdays in fact. Our visit was preceded by many "must go's." We did. We were not very impressed. Food was ok, but the service was incredibly slow...lighting required a flashlight to see the menu and the loud sounds of music permeated the air, even upstairs in... More

Although a bit challenging to find, this place is "chick California" with its outside dining by fire pits, varied menu, and very pleasant staff. Service was top notch and no wait time for our party. Absinthe cart something to behold!

I've heard so much about how wonderful this place is so my expectations were pretty high. Sadly, 3 friends and I stopped by on a Saturday evening. It wasn't very crowded so we sat outside at one of the firepits (which are gorgeous) waited a bit, nobody came to wait on us so we decided to go inside. Hostess was... More

Was there in late December. The food experience has gotten even better. The drinks are as good as I remember. Very nice private area upstairs. Even got engaged, and I don't think anyone noticed. Very nice! Want to get back and try the truffle chicken...

!833 has great food and wonderful flavors that are unique to each dish. We have enjoyed several visits to this restaurant and always pleased. HOWEVER, our visit on December 6 was frustrating as our server was very slow getting food to us. Our server seemed anxious to take our order but once he had it, things were terribly slow. We... Lively bar with great drinks and a fun crowd. Drinks are not cheap, but they are delicious! Inside and outside seating, great atmosphere. Restaurant looked good, but we only went for drinks.

It was the best of bites; it was the worst of bites. My husband's roasted shrimp on a bed of Cajun grits (once they actually added the shrimp that had been left out due to miscommunication in the kitchen) was my husband's favorite dish of our four day stay in Monterey. My chestnut soup was also lovely. We then waited... More

What can I say, we were turned onto this place by a friend last year, so when going through Monterey again this year...we HAD to stop! Made a reservation this year so we could eat in the main dining room. And we bit on the Truffle Chicken again...an hour to cook and worth EVERY MINUTE of the wait! OMG!!! We... More

Attending conference...large group had reservations, met on deck for wine and hors d'oeuvres. Three course dinner with limited menu was delicious. Small portion size was ample, well served in a historic home setting. I am attending another conference in January, planning on returning with my wife.

I've been here plenty of times for weekend cocktails, but never for dinner. My girlfriends and I came here for a birthday celebration and we loved it!!! We shared a few appetizers and small plates... it was DELICIOUS!!! The best were the chicken liver mousse and bone marrow, I'd go back just for those two dishes. And our server Alex... More
