My daughter had her wedding reception here. It is a very unusual restaurant in that it is composed of numerous dining areas, not just one big room. The food was excellent, service outstanding, overall a very pleasant experience! There are outdoor fire pits, nice for pre dinner cocktails. Would return to this place again!

This was one of our all time favorite places in California. The restaurant is set in an older home on a quiet street in Monterey. Each dining room and area was unique. Our server shared the history of the home and the people that had lived there. All the food was fantastic, but our favorite was dessert. Not going to... More

Other than the incompetent hostess, this place is the first of a real find. Skip all the other places that offer the standard pasta fares and supposedly fresh fish. This place is worthy of James Beard. It's not Carmel and that's a good thing. The only minor culinary complaint could be that some of the first courses should be shared... More

A very friendly and comfortable bar offering creative drinks greets you. Menu selections are varied, with tasty small plates available for openers. Mains and portions better than average. Table service was a bit off, slow throughout dinner with wine ordered mid-meal delivered just before dessert.

We just stopped in for a cocktail and appetizers on a Friday evening. We sat outside - there are several fire pits and comfortable seating. The waitress was attentive and quick. The drinks were unusual and fun. They bring you popcorn with truffle butter for free - it was amazingly delicious! We ordered an avocado appetizer, that was outstanding. The... More

After a full week at Monterey we ate at 1833 last night and what a fantastic venue!! As we are are on honeymoon we found this place to be perfect for that little bit more intimacy. The staff were professional yet friendly and moved around the restaurant in a calm manner while being very attentive. We both had the Prosecco... More

We stopped at 1833 for a nightcap after a night out in Monterey while on holiday, having been drawn in by what seemed a pleasant ambience and heated garden. However part of the outside seating area was given over to a private party we were treated to a performance from the "brat crowd" mentioned in previous reviews, in the form... More

"Loulou's Griddle in the Middle" is currently TripAdvisor's #1 for Monterey. And this fantastic restaurant is.... #54. Huh????? Finding top-flight, fine-dining restaurants in Monterey turns out to not be quite as easy as you might expect. Restaurant 1833 is among the best. I know experiences can differ, but something's wrong if any of those grungy, interchangeable wharf dives can get... More

Bring your wallet and try this restaurant; you will not be disappointed. We had a Tomato Salad, Sea Bass and Ling Cod. Every thing was fresh, prepared to perfection. One of the best meals we have had, we will be returning.

We’ve eaten here twice in the past six weeks and find it to be an excellent option in an area full of great restaurants. The restaurant is located in downtown Monterey, in an old adobe mansion. They have a gorgeous bar area, complete with comfortable couches indoors, as well as fire pits outside. FYI you can order anything on the... More
