Reviews by other travelers led me to try Jose's Mexican Bar & Grill in Monterey. Unfortunately, Jose took his tortillas and left Monterey before me In January 2014. So look elsewhere in the Monterey area for your Mexican food.

My wife and I have eaten at Jose's on Cannery Row over a dozen times, this restaurant has the best Mexican food anywhere on the Monterey Peninsula. Forget going to El Torito or Taco Bell, Jose's is levels above those. My wife usually gets the chicken tostada and occasionally has the chicken taco. I have tried a variety of enchiladas,... More

funny thing is for this restaurant is that they got more money for the tip than I paid in my credit card. I'm not sure how they do it, but they got more, so I'm going to call my credit card. It's really ridiculous.

I am in to simple Mexican food and I thought the dishes my Wife and I had were very authentic. The shrimp cocktail was very good- a little sweet for my tastes but plenty of fresh shrimp (so fresh in fact that they were still warm from cooking them, would preferred them to be cold though). Wife had enchiladas and... More

We lived in the great state of Texas and have had many delicous Mexican meals. We were looking forward to a good one here, but found the fajitas mediocre. The meat was not of high quality and we were not crazy about the tortillas and the fixings. I'd pass on this place and go eat the delicious seafood on the... More

We gave this place a try as it is usually packed. We may have ordered less popular items from the menu... Fish tacos and veggie burrito. The beans were too salty for our liking while the rice lacked seasoning. The kids' menu was decent but overall, the food is decent. We will probably try a different Mexican restaurant next time... Read the reviews on Tripadvisor and decided to try it. Charming little restaurant and friendly service. We were very surprise to see it pretty empty but after tasting the food I am sure it will not remain this way for long. The food was fabulous and unpretentious. We ordered a shrimp quesadilla that was stuffed with lots of shrimp and... More

We took a long morning bike ride then ate here for lunch! Best red snapper fish tacos I've ever had! Very fresh! Owner and staff were so nice! Made us feel like we were in their living room! Must eat here:)

We stopped in after a bike ride. Fantastic margaritas and fish tacos. Guacamole was so good too. One of the owners waited on us and he was incredibly friendly. Overall experience was simply more than I would have ever expected. You can't go wrong. Go to Jose!

I've been to this restaurant several times. It is consistently very good. Staff is helpful and accommodating. Highly recommend the chili relleno, pork carnitas tacos and the beef chimichanga. All are terrific! The place is nothing fancy, but the food quality & value is there.
