We were back in Monterey for an motorcycle race at Laguna Seca. We had dined at El Palomar a few years ago while attending a MotoGP motorcycle and really enjoyed our meal. We where not disappointed the meal and service where once again great.

My favorite are the chili rellenos served with the usual rice and beans. I had the guacamole which was VERY salty and that is a crime! It has been on more than one occasion that I ordered the corn tortillas but got the flour ones instead! The level of service is what one would expect from a better restaurant. Prices... More

Recommended by people at our hotel. It was very close to Casa Munras--very helpful after a long drive. Waiter very friendly. We just felt it could have been updated moreso. Entrance way a bit confusing.

Stopped into this place for lunch with my family. The selection of food is good but the prices are a little higher than what you'd expect from Mexican food. The atmosphere was okay, but it looks like it caters more to a sports bar crowd with the amount of sports/alcohol related posters and banners all over the place. The service... More

We were craving mexican. The hotel I stayed in recommended it. Food was bad and margaritas were bad also! How can you mess up fajitas? They did!

We were craving some Mexican food and since we were staying across the street we decided to give El Palomar a try. We ordered a pitcher of their ultimate margaritas (the only margarita on the menu not made with yucky Cuervo gold) - unfortunately they were not very good, too sweet and made with sour mix rather then fresh squeezed... We ate here as a recommendation from my wife's co-worker. The venue (room) is nice and has potential for a great atmosphere. However, there isn't any atmosphere for this Mexican restaurant. The bar had numerous football flags hanging but that was all for decor. No Mexican influences at all. High ceiling that could easily have decor i.e. pinatas, etc. As... More

We visit Monterey every year with a group of Japanese exchange students from our sister city. El Palomar is our go-to place for great service and food. Excellent chips and salsa, delicious guacamole, and a nice range of traditional Mexican-American dishes. The chicken enchiladas and carne asada burrito are particularly good. Friendly and attentive service. Perfect place to take a... More

We have stopped at the El Palomar many times over the years, starting when our daughter was attending C.S.U.M.B. The décor is a little different, since the building seems to have been an old-style grocery store in the past. The waiters are friendly, and attentive. The food is just about the best Mexican food I have tasted, keeping in mind... More

The guacamole is the star of this place. In my opinion it was excellent. The rest was sort of average. Large place, not very quaint...aimed to just feed...... We had a efficient waitress adding to the experience. I only had refried beans and sourcream...and the refried were average at best.
