This bakery and restaurant has amazing Cuban pastries. For a family get together, I ordered a tray of Refugees (cream cheese & guava filled pastries) and guava filled pastries. Delicious. The beef empanadas and the potato balls (mashed potato stuffed with cheese and beef) are very good, too.

This is a great little find in downtown Monrovia suitable for family, friends, or solo. It would be a fun, very casual date place. They have some amazing pastries and also do an incredible job on their custom cakes. We had a fabulous "Cuban style" cobb salad and enjoyed some empanadas which were very tasty. We tried a couple of... More

I stumbled upon this restaurant when I had to go to old downtown Monrovia for business, and what a great find for Cuban food! I didn't have time for a sit-down meal, but happily, the bakery had finger foods available. I had the potato balls stuffed with cheese and beef. The light crust was a perfect complement to the mashed... More

Just enjoyed a chicken empanada and cheese ball for dinner followed by a Carmel cake. Everything was amazing, I even brought something home for later. The prices were reasonable and it was very friendly place. The staff was very helpful.

First off, let me say that this review is about the pastries (too hooked on those to try anything else, as yet). Their coconut strudel is to die for . . . Not too sweet, and a nice CHUNK of real coconut inside (nuke 'em for 15 seconds for a burst of pure coconut happiness). The beef empanadas are good,... More

Since I've only visited here twice, I'll keep the review simple: Chocolate Ganache cake slice...........HEAVENLY, sweet, creamy, chocolate-y, rich, good enough to share....but I didn't :-D Lemon Tart.....Lemon tart very pretty ....and truly 'tart'...thank you bakery chef! If you like your lemon pie/tart's with a tang that bites (in just the right lovingly way) ...mmmm....order one for me too.

Didn't feel like driving to Portos and opted for Merengue since it's almost in my back yard. I can't believe I'm saying this but the ham croqueta, papa rellena and pastelito de carne were equally as good as Portos and maybe, just maybe even better. Oh and the tres leche cake was just as good. There I said it.

The day after the Rose Parade we were looking for a good place for breakfast and found Merengue. Great breakfast burrito and wonderful pastries. We took a box to our friends in Palm Desert.
