I always look forward to my six time a year stops in Merced as I look forward to dinner at the Branding Iron where the food is always excellent and the servers do a great job of following your desires. For example, after a long road trip I always enjoy a before dinner drink to relax, so I tell the... More

A local favorite for decades. Prices are a bit higher for the Merced area but not bad. House Gazpacho soup is great. Fun atmosphere, meeting/party rooms and bar. The splashy cowboy neon sign out front adds to the fun.

The food and service were excellent, but many restaurants can say that. What's unique here is the atmosphere and an intangible that comes from decades of experience. This place does everything right.

My visits to Merced are far less frequent than in the past. As luck would have it, on the night prior to visiting this fine restaurant, I was approving expense reports and came across a charge for the Branding Iron and decided I knew where I was having lunch the next day. Branding Iron didn't disappoint as everything was just... More

You really feel like you have stepped back in time when entering the Branding Iron -- straights from the 1950s as far as the decor and architecture. Definitely order the gazpacho (comes as an option with most dishes or al la carte). Desserts are good as well. If you are not a big steak eater, they have other options on... More

This is the only really good steak place to eat in Merced . The place such a variety that everyone would be happy with. The gazpacho is to die for.

The Branding Iron is beautifully decorated with old time western art, intimate and comfortable. Full bar, nice wine list and delicious prime rib.The seafood and poultry my companions ordered were perfectly prepared also. Jessa was our server, she was attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. Top notch service, food and ambiance to rival any large city steakhouse. Lovely surprise for a place... More

A great place to go for special occasions. The fish is fresh and steaks are cooked to perfection. You leave full, they don't skimp on the portions. We come from out of town to eat here. We would go more often if we lived in Merced.

I've been to this restaurant since it opened in 1950's. The New York Steaks is a great menu item. My wife enjoyed the Filet of Sole. We both loved the Gazpacho Soup so much that we bought 2 contactors to take 300 miles back home in our ice chest. Great eating!!!
