Among my Favorites

I am more of a thick-crust pizza person. If your preference is NY style, forget about this place. I come for the pizza and have rarely sampled any other items from them menu. (I had the lasagna once and like it). The optional salads are crisp but simple. Everyone has their own idiosyncrasies... read more

Perhaps it is my taste, but I was thoroughly disappointed in the pizza we had here when we finally tried it. It has been around a long time and seems to be popular so we were expecting more. The pizza was luke warm, not sizzling hot, as if it had sat around awhile. The crust was huge and doughy and... More

About 20 of went here one night. We called ahead and the restaurant had a long table prepared for us. Ordering is simple - at the counter and pay when ordering. We loved this method with so many people. The choices are excellent or you can make your own pizza (select what you want to eat on it - not... More

THe pizza is above average, a bit thick and californian, but the owners are hungarian. The tomato sauce in the pizza is especially good, get the addictive langos bread, and the goulash --- and an above average german beer collection.

We’ve done a few take-outs from here when we happened to stray from Palo Alto, which seems to have no decent pizza. We tried Applewood’s delivery once, but it was rather slow. This place fronts onto El Camino Real, in a busy section of El Camino in a busy part of a busy little city. No steps at entry. Has... More

Met with some friends after a workday and they told me this is one of the "old time" local pizza hangouts. Food and pizza was good in a relaxing environment. Finishes look a little dated, but maybe that is intentional to retain the old style look and feel.

Got takeout from the counter in the restaurant. Server gave us water and let us sit at a vacant table while we waited. Pizza was of a high standard and hot when we got it home to eat.

This pizza, better than Dominos class, is borderline stinko - perhaps decent for California standards, particularly suburbia, but relative to true New York style pie, a joke. There are a few spots in SF where you can still find a decent slice, but unfortunately, not on the Peninsula (that I've found), including next door in Palo Alto. All the same... More

We have been coming to Applewood for years. We have tried other local options like Amici's and Patxi's, but we always return to Applewood because it is our favorite. We have eaten at the restaurant, very low key, casual (a bit outdated decor) and we have taken it to go as well (from Applewood 2-go across the street). We have... More

I used to go to Applewood exclusively for pizza for several years, then I discovered Paxti's and Amici's and the romance was over. I hadn't been back to Applewood in almost 2 years. I stopped in one night for dinner with my family and realized again why I used to be a regular. The pizza is delicious. The Milano and... More
