We had a party of 8 for a special occasion. Service ranged from 1 star to 5 star during the course of the evening. The wine steward had two breakdowns from the usual standard I'd expect at an establishment like Madera. The food was excellent to superb - as it has to be, at these prices. We've had good luck... Starting with the wine list, prices are over the top. $50 for a half bottle of Ridge Zin, onto starters for $15 (small bowl of soup; small dinner salad) and entrees in the $35 to $40 range, you expect excellent food and service. Overall the service was very slow, the plates themselves were oversized and the food portions were small,... More

My husband and I enjoyed a delicious dinner at Madera. We ordered the Chef's special appetizer for the day. It was a small plate of pasta with smoked pork and edible flowers. Amazing. Somewhat like a super-gourmet tuna casserole. Then we were treated with a Pico de Gallo Consomme, courtesy of the Chef. I've never had anything like this before.... More

waiters spent half an hour talking to each other ignoring the tables. Wine ordered too 45 mins to come to table ("We couldn't find it"). Fish was the nadir, reheated, overwarmed, frozen fillets in an indecipherable overcooked sauce. What's to like?

Madera has a lot to like. It starts with a great atmosphere. The dining room is beautiful, with a high beamed ceiling, comfortable chairs, and ample space between tables. The food is top shelf...an innovative menu, well-prepared. Among the favorites--strip loin steak, lamb, canneloni, halibut, salmon and summer squash. All tasty and nicely presented. Now for the downsides. The wine... More

Firstly, this is a great restaurant. Service is exceptional and deserving of 1 star Michelin, We had exceptional friendly and knowledgeable service from our server Jessica and our sommelier Julie. Very accommodating and really unpretentious. The food was a bit disappointing. It was excellent food but lacked the creativity you would expect from 1 star Michelin restaurant. There was nothing... Madera Restaurant is located on Rosewood and Sand Hill Road in Menlo Park. A fairly new hotel and restaurant catering to the Silicon Valley and Stanford crowds. A beautiful, spacious location with a terrace overlooking the foothills. Great view, large open kitchen and dining area, beautifully furnished. My wife and I joined another couple who had purchased dinner at a... More

I have Celiac Disease and must maintain a strict gluten free diet, and the Madera always rises to the occasion. I recommend calling before and placing your order with Matt, the thoughtful and knowledgeable manager! He is well versed in Celiac needs and always walks me through the menu, item by item, to tell me what is gluten free (or... More
