This is our favorite lunch spot in Mendocino. Excellent food and service - always a pleasure to stop by. Relaxing setting makes it just perfect.

Really good food, reasonably priced wine and good service. Scallop risotto and seafood cioppino were both excellent as was the leek and goats cheese tart. Boutique style so limited menu, we ate quite late and they only had one serve of scallops left but that is what you expect with a boutique restaurant.
A very nice meal. The seafood cioppino was excellent. Service was pleasant. Make reservations; it is a small face and fills up fast.
Not SUPER great food, in fact, the dessert special sounded really good, we ordered it but the description didn't say it had almonds and i am allergic. So we spent $90+ for a good but not GREAT dinner
Had heard the menu can be spotty, but we had a delightful lunch with creatively prepared and presented dishes. Who knew parsnip soup could be so delicious! Top it off with a glass of Sharffenburger "Creme" sparkling wine. If hamburgers are your quest, have never seen them so huge -- half-pounders with brie cheese and other goodies which we saw...

The Mendocino Coast is known as a "foodie heaven", so one would expect to find tht perfect place for lunch in the village of Mendocino. For my money (and time), The Moosse Cafe is that place.
There's a nice range of meals: Leek and cheese tart (my favorite), the Moosse Burger, an excellent veggie burger (that reminds one of Indian...

I'm not one to give a critical review based on one bad experience...especially for a place that used to be our favorite place in town...but we have been disappointed in all of our recent (4-5) visits.
1) The food just doesn't taste as good as it used to (Don't order the cioppino).
2) The service is inconsistent, they run out...

We had a reservation for a Sat night. Having looked over the menu, I knew exactly what I was going to order. We got there on time, it's a nice enough dining room - very simple and a roaring fireplace. We were immediately told that two items were not available (they'd only been open for 1.5 hrs at that point)....

We flew to Mendocino for lunch and our taxi driver recommended the Moose. We had a wonderful experience, the burger was cooked perfectly to order, the Cumin Vinegrette dressing on the beet salad was a unique and delightful flavor accent and the service was excellent. We feel that it was a very good value for the quality of the meal.
A quiet dining room, excellent food, good service all in a charming house was just what we needed at the end of a busy Friday. We tried the beet salad, scallops with porcini mushroom risotto and lasagna. All were delicious. I especially liked that they had lighter fare on the menu. Tasty ginger cookies were served with our bill.
