The fare is English pub, the fish and chips are pretty good, Beer battered cod, crispy and not over cooked. The chips are large steak fries done well. The reel gems are the beers, a small selection of nice beers from light to dark, all great.

Came in and rather than beig greeted by the owner/worker he squeezed by us and motioned for us to sit. As we were giving our drink order; I paused briefly and he walked away and took the order of the table next to us. We had to ask for menus and then get up to get them ourselves... Menu didn't... Cute little restaurant off the main road. Definitely grab a beer while you're there--it's a brewery, after all! The room is well-decorated with British memorabilia, and the ceiling is filled with loyal customer's mugs. As for food, they have the usual pub fare: calamari, fish and chips, sandwiches. We really liked the steak cut fries and the calamari strips. The... More

Stopped in for lunch at the English Ales Brewery and Cafe. TVs tuned in to some sporting event, but not turned up too loud. I ordered a seasonal ESB which was very good, and a Turkey Sandwich, which was a bit bland. Curly fries were very good. Very friendly and good service! The Cafe has free WiFi, which was very... More

Love English Ales. The fish/banger and chips plate is fantastic. If you're looking for the healthy option try the chicken salad (not the type with mayo, but with actual lettuce). After an hour you will actually feel like you are in the UK :)

I visit about 20 breweries a year around the USA but I’m extra fortunate to have English Ales Brewery just a mile walk from my home. Beyond supplying many of the Monterey-area restaurants and festivals with their popular line of draught beers, the brewery is also a quaint neighborhood pub in the English country style filled with local residents, workers,... My wife and I went here in early November for my birthday. We live in Marina and have eaten here a number of times. It's located a couple of blocks away from the main drag, Del Monte Blvd. The restaurant is next to its' own small ale brewery aside insurance agents, a Korean nail salon and other assorted small businesses....
