Went to the sage room once, and we live nearby. It was crowded, really crowded with little tables jammed uncomfortably close. The service was slow and surly, not at all welcoming. The food was at best mediocre and uninspired, but the owners cleverly overpriced the menu, I guess thinking $40 pasta dishes might stimulate the interest of gourmands. It did... More

We had been fans of Sage and wanted to see what was replacing it. I had a wonderful fresh salmon and my husband had pasta. I especially liked the dessert and cappuccino. It was an apple, berry tart and delicious with ice cream. It is a cozy, very Italian cafe, with lovely service, where we also saw neighbors. One of the... More

Sage Room is now closed in Malibu. I think they opened in Westlake Village. Have not had a chance to eat there yet.

Once upon a time The Sage Room was one of the best restaurants in Malibu. Unfortunately is closed forever at the end of the year. Rumor has it a new Italian restaurant will be coming to the same location soon to be run by the wonderful Willfredo (who ran The Sage Room) up until its closing.

The dining room was intimate and pleasant. The staff is warm, welcoming and attentive. I started with the cauliflower soup, which was excellent. The fish was good, but ordinary. Friends had the Romano salad and Osobuco, which they enjoyed.

Went to Malibu for a quick getaway and wanted a nice sit down dinner with the family. The two dishes that stood out were the Veal Marsala, possibly the best I've ever had, and my son had a "melt in your mouth" filet. Service was very good, we will definitely be back.

After going off the rails for awhile by bringing in a chef not right for this cozy Italian restaurant a new chef has restored order and The Sage Room is once again the best place to eat in Malibu. The food and service is consistently excellent and Wilfredo, the manager, is a most gracious and accommadating host, always willing to... More

Just came back from renting a place in Malibu. We tried a number of restaurants; this one was the best we found. We had a lovely dinner there, with excellent food and service. All the dishes, from appetizers/salads/pasta/meat/fish-all lovely. We liked it so much, we ordered take-out, also excellent. Fine service, responsive, not pretentious; not cheap, but worth the $.... I had just dropped off a family of seven I'd driven for 8 days. I was craving a nice Italian meal with red wine. Thankfully I got to Sage Room before they closed. The food was exactly what I wanted - I ordered the Ravioli Stili Maria Rosa - and really enjoyed the wine (a simple chianti). I was most... More

Made reservations for my wife's birthday, we arrived 10 min early and were promptly seated...and then completely ignored for 30 minutes....had to go asked if we were could be helped before the waiter showed up. On the good side, the food was well prepared and tasted excellent and the service improved as the evening progressed. Wine prices were restaurant standard,... More
