Description: Duke's Malibu has brought the excitement of Hawaii, Waikiki, and surfing...
Duke's Malibu has brought the excitement of Hawaii, Waikiki, and surfing to the mainland. The spectacular oceanfront location on Pacific Coast Highway offers over 300 feet of romantic oceanfront dining and memorabilia from both Hawaii and California surfing history. The Barefoot Bar, looking south into the lights of Santa Monica, is a great spot for drinks and casual food with friends.

A friend recommended Duke's and we were pleasantly surprised. Welcoming and service minded staff, old school (but not dated) interior with "Island touch" and a wide selection of dishes. The food was excellent and our waiter the best, couldn't ask for more. Prices was very reasonable. We'll be coming back anytime we're in California!

We wanted a beach dinner and that is what this was. The view was beautiful with the surf coming almost up to our window. the restaurant did not face west so there was no sunset view. Valet parking was easy (and $5). We had a reservation and had to wait about 10 minutes. We had requested a window table but... More

Dukes is very expensive for average food because it is in Malibu on the ocean. There is no reason to eat in the main dining room for a $30 small piece of fish. Probably because of beach erosion the restaurant is on rocks right on the Pacific so it doesn't have much of a view other than water. They do... More

You really can't match the view from the dining room. Waves ALMOST hit the windows. Seagulls fly right by. The food was good but not stellar. Sorry. Nice range of fish and prep styles but just not amazing. Also, the whole place has a distinctive aroma. Sea salt? Urinal? Tough call. Just a little nose crinkling. I wouldn't do it... More

We took our niece up to Dukes since she wanted to eat on the water. We've been to Dukes on Oahu and Maui and also their Hula Grill. First, be aware that they will not seat you in the dining room from 3-4 pm while changing from lunch to dinner. Secondly, the menu is very limited for dinner and the... More

The well renowned Dukes didn't disappoint. We arrived early to sit with a cocktail and watch the Ocean. After a short while a pod of dolphins passed by which made our day. The cocktails were inspired and delicious and not expensive. The menu was exotic with lots of Hawaiian style dishes. All dishes were tasty, served by professional staff. A... More

I was a tourist, but my friend was from LA and she suggested Dukes so we drove to Malibu which, in and of itself, was worthwhile. Man, it's gorgeous out there. I ordered a drink called "The Flow" or "Lava Flow" ??? and it was so delicious I only had one. I always wonder if bars skimp on liquor, but... More

Stopped for a light dinner and ate at the bar in the casual section of the restaurant. We had the seafood chowder which was very good, Caesar salad, mac and cheese was great, and the pork tacos which were ok. Service at the bar was good, friendly and attentive staff. They also have an outdoor seating area in the casual... More

A very popular surf type place on the PCH in Malibu. Very busy most of the time and also on a Sunday during brunch hours, in addition to their regular menu, they offer a brunch buffet for around $29 USD per person. As it was so busy inside and there was a wait for the outside decked area, we decided... More

Staying in Malibu

Neighborhood Profile
Malibu
The Malibu coastline is like a chameleon. In some areas it resembles the French Riviera with its lush, green hillsides descending into crescent-shaped shorelines. In others, it feels 100% Southern Californian with beaches wide and flat as a football field, and often crowded with beach-goers lounging on towels and playing volleyball. Other coastlines still feel secluded, tucked under tall cliffs and dotted with stunning rock formations. In certain areas, where the ocean waves are just right, surfers can be seen bobbing in the water. Up in the mountains to the east hikers take in truly stunning views of the ocean and the sprawling Los Angeles landscape. And along Pacific Coast Highway, restaurants are filled with visitors and locals from all walks of life. Stumble into the right place at the right time, and you’ll likely encounter a celebrity.
