This used to be our favorite restaurant in the wine country. We decided to go for my husband's birthday. We were very disappointed. The menu was unimaginative and t he food was not particularly good. I had their signature prime rib which was tough and tasteless. I did not send it back, but did not eat much of it either.... more

A nice little old restaurant. I think it used to be a stage coach stop or something about 150 years ago. Service was great. more

It used to be a Charthouse, and the atmosphere is not as elegant as Ballard Inn, but the Prime Rib was incredible. more

If you're in sleepy little walking village of Los Olivos, and you start asking locals for a good place to have a nice anniversary dinner, they will all say "Mattei's" (no one calls it Brother's). I have to say it was very solid... but I wasn't five-star blown away. My guess is that it doesn't have much in the way... more

When we are in the neighborhood Matteis is always a must for us. The atmosphere is comfortable, winter or summer, and the service has always been accomodating. The food and drink have yet to be a disappointment. more

7 of us went for a combined birthday dinner last weekend and the food was excellent as always. They actually know how to cook lamb RARE, the prime rib is top notch. The atmosphere is great in this historic old stagecoach inn. My only minor issue is that their wine prices are a little high, and I think they could... more

We cancelled our other plans for another restaurant when we walked in. Many choices for eating areas within the restaurant.. I had a pork chop that was the best I've ever had; my wife had Rainbow trout, again very good. The only minus, was that the staff paid a little more attention to the locals than us in terms of... more

We were a party of 6 for a birthday. Our res was made pretty much last minute (on a thurs for the weeknd) and was a late dinner, 8:30. The restaurant seemed pretty much cleared out at that time... we were seated promptly, in the patio room off the main restaurant. It was not very cozy, like the interior of... more

Outstanding restaurant not to be missed! Be sure to order the lamb - either as a special or rack that is listed on the menu. FANTASTIC! more

I don't know about the restaurant, but a friend and I dropped in at Mattei's Tavern and had a great time. The historic building has tons of character and the bar was very charming. We were able to get a seat right away next to the roaring fireplace and order a great local beer (Firestone Double Ale). I know I... more
