Very average food, 3-star rating is being generous

We had not been to Lupe's in several years, but we were in the area and decided to give it a new try. Although it was busy, there were open tables, but it took awhile to get seated. The chIps were warm and fresh and the salsa okay. I had the chili verde. The pork was dry and there was... read more

I ordered takeout from this restaurant that has been there for generations. My wife and I use to go there often but have not been there for quite some time. I order their Steak Picada which was advertised a Top Sirloin. I asked that they do not over cook the meat. It came and one bite of the dish had... More

The first thing I noticed when we entered was the excessively loud noises. It wasn't just people talking but the doors banging, the ice machine, the dishes from the kitchen, the silverware clanking and other racket which were very annoying and difficult to talk above. I also noticed right away that the cloth backing in the booths was dirty and... More

Old-timers love the place, but if you expect TexMex, Sanora style, or G O O D Mexican food - - LOL. It's straight for the can and even the frijoles are bland. Chilli Verde is homu too.

Lupe's has been a part of Thousand Oaks for it seems forever, at least 50 years. The quality of the food has not changed - always great basic mexican food, large portions, inexpensive, and friendly service. Not for those looking for bar drinks or "new California" mexican food. This is "old school" mexican food as it should be. Also great... More

For a Business or Social Luncheon, steer yourself down Thousand Oaks Blvd to Lupes Restaurant. Nestled in a quiet area off Thousand Oaks Blvd, Lupes is a bright spot for a Great Lunch. To say that the portions are Large, would be an understatement of the highest order. I ordered One Chicken Burrito and I could not finish it!! In... More

I had not been to Lupe's in many years. So on a Friday afternoon we were craving Mexican food and decided to go to Lupe's. I ordered the enchilada's rancheros and my wife ordered a combo with a chicken taco and cheese Enchilada. We each ordered a salad as well. While we waited for the food, we selected some tunes... I've been coming to Lupe's for about 10 years now. They went thru a renovation so some of that "dive" charm is gone, but the place still serves up great ground beef enchiladas, free warm chips and as much salsa as you can digest. The servers tend to be long time employees so you get some of that "personality". I... More

I have been a customer of this restaurant for more than 30 years and it has been my favorite Mexican restaurant in Thousand Oaks. However, after my last three bits I shall never go back. It must have new owners, because it is now for me the worse Mexican restaurant in Thousand Oaks. The food is no longer worth eating.... More

I have visited Lupe's on several occasions and have always left disappointed. They serve traditional Mexican cuisine, but just not with the flavors that you would hope for. The food is generally bland and seems to always be missing something. Additionally, the cost is not deserving for what you get. They are very expensive for this type of food. If... More
