Good and not as good

This place has a very unique setting in an office building up high but with an indoor/outdoor angle. The sushi is inventive and tastes fresh. The service seems hurried, almost like they are trying too hard to turn the tables. The music is a little loud for a dinner conversation. The setting and... read more

I took a big (and not young) group--12. I was originally hoping to do happy hour there--and that is NOT expensive given the high quality of the food--but because of various people's need to sit down at a "proper table" and be away from the music, we ended up ordering in the part of the restaurant reserved for dinner, not... I have eaten at Takami a half dozen times, bringing friends and last week my wife for the experience - it is always very enjoyable. On the 21st floor overlooking downtown LA with the window line only partly covering the outside opening, it provides a stunning experience. The food has always been very high quality as well - including a... More

Culinary professionals will tell you that if you can smell fish it is not fresh. Stepping out of the elevator into Takami the other evening, the stench of fish was decidedly overwhelming. I have never before been in a sushi bar where this has been a problem. The overpriced food and service are mediocre. The indoor/outdoor space is fun, but,... More

This place is amazing. It is on the 21st floor of a building in downtown Los Angeles. Ask to be seated outside. While it is covered and heaters are above you, the air is wonderful. The view is stunning. Downtown LA is below and all around you as you dine. We had the Banzai Margarita, Lychee Mojito, Scotch and Vine,... More

a client first showed me to Takami. it's our regular when we're both in town. i'm sure there are so many more better options in LA, but when we're in DTLA and near of the office this place is where we head. the service is twelve stars if i could - great atmosphere and view. you really can't find anything... Can't beat the view! Or the happy hour prices, which is the best time to go! Sushi is good and so is the service! Easy to access from the subway!

The crown jewel of my visit to this restaurant was the service. The food was good, very small portions. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with great city views and several seating areas. There is an area for watching sports, sushi bar, casual seating for drinks, a regular bar and dining areas inside and also an enclosed outside area. The Chilean... More

I enjoyed some excellent sushi here. What ruined the experience was that they cannot seem to decide if they want to be a restaurant or a discotheque. The excessively LOUD, bad music really takes away from the pleasure of their quite good food. I think more people go there for the view, but it's just the boring LA skyline you're... More

We really enjoyed our dining experience at Takami on the 21st floor of 811 Wilshire in the heart of downtown LA. The decor is very cool and modern with a hint of Shag-style. The main dining room is partitioned with a glass wall because the exterior windows on the 21st floor and only half panels with the top half open... More

Staying in Downtown

Neighborhood Profile
Downtown
Downtown Los Angeles is a busy metropolis of towering buildings, bustling streets, and industrial warehouses. There is a distinct multiplicity of cultures here with a growing influx of business professionals and hipsters. Many call the evolution of Downtown over recent years gentrification. New lofts, bars, hotels and restaurants are popping up regularly. Downtown is home to some of the very best restaurants in the city leading the LA foodie scene, plus it is the location of cultural and sports venues including the Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Staples Center, and the Coliseum at the University of Southern California.
