This place is so special. When youwalk in you have to check and make sure that you are in a restaurant. People are lounging and hannging out and generally using this as a gathering place. They do this for a good reason. This place has REAL ethiopian food. Fresh ingara and cooked to order food. This is a must try... More

I love love the trout meal that comes with veggie sides. Or sometimes I will get the veggie combo with the zil zil tips. Either way you go the food is great. Just tried the Ethiopian tea that was delish.

I love the veggie combo and the whole fish mean at Merkato. I also love the zil zil tips. Not to mention the food is delish and the prices are very resonable. Would go there after or before an event of just on the fly for lunch or dinner.

This is probably the best Indian food I've had in the area. Owners are very friendly. Buffet is excellent!

If possible, I like to try Ethiopian restaurants when I am out on business meetings. This time, I happened to have a local "guide" - two old friends who live in West Hollywood. They love Little Ethiopia and have tried many of the restaurants in the area, and they keep coming back to Markato. This certainly isn't because of the... More

What a great spot for a relaxing, inexpensive feast with family or friends. The simple, intense flavors really sing; the service is brisk and professional. We loved the earthy collard greens, the two kinds of delicately spicy lentils and--best of all--the trout, a real surprise. Five of us made short work of three fish. We kept nibbling long after we'd... More

Competition is tough up and down Fairfax avenue as there is lots of good Ethiopian food to be had. Vegetarian choices. Standard Ethiopian restaurant fare. If you have never had Ethiopian food or don't know what to expect, look for a video on the internet. Really good cuisine, but the variety in N. American restaurants is limited. Most commonly, there... More

One of my favorites. It always feels good to be there and the food is excellent. Among my favorites: Zil Zil Beef, the lamb dishes, the vegetarian platter (be forewarned that the innocent looking chopped salad part is actually chock full of peppers and quite spicy, but the rest of the platter is not spicy at all), the grilled chicken... This is our favorite Ethiopian Restaurant in Little Ethiopia, L.A. We love it! On our last visit, we noticed the prices seemed a little higher than in the past, but still more than worth it in value! Had our favorites: injera with vegetables, a whole fish, and dora wat (a spicy chicken stew type of dish). It was a weekend... More
