Pretty Cool Dive Bar

I saw this place while on the bus in DTLA and something drew me in. I thought I was back in 1965 for a second. It's got a nautical theme reminiscent of Trader Vics, but not quite as corny. We had burgers and they were really very good. The guy next to me ordered the rib eye and it also... read more

Really wish I could write a better review- but the food I ordered was just gross and salty. I ordered the fish and "chips"- which literally were chips- potato chips!!!! WHO THINKS THAT WHEN YOU ORDER FISH AND CHIPS YOU ARE GOING TO GET POTATO CHIPS??? Thankfully, the wait staff gave me a plate of proper fries after my shocked... More

We stumbled upon this place with low expectations after searching for casual bar and grill in the area. We were definitely unsure about the "pirate theme" we heard it had, but it turned out the decor was really cool. The staff was nice and everyone was really relaxed. They had a great selection of beer and mixed drinks, all at... More

Fun bar right downtown where all the newspaper offices are and the Grand Central Market. It has just a bit of a dive feel but it's clean, safe and the staff is friendly once they get to know you. The menu is actually pretty varied, with sandwiches and salads as well as good appetizers like calamari and mozzarella sticks. The... More

Great place! Great food (a surprisingly varied menu) fine drinks and attentive, fun service. Enjoy the diverse live bands that perform there. Don't miss it!!

It's a pirate bar and the dtaff is really friendly and polite. Service is good and food is yummy. They have an internet jukebox and live music on the weekends. My husband and I got into a conversation with one of the bartenders about music and he wrote down bands we should check out. I'll definitely go back.

I went to Redwood with a couple of friends from the LA area. The restaurant itself has an English pub atmosphere. I should have been tipped off when I tried to order a bottle of wine and the waitress said that she'd check as they mostly sold wine by the glass. Anyway, a short while later, we did have a... More

Not worth stopping I walked in really hungry but it's all greasy sounding food and the bar tender was super rude. I'm from out of town never been to LA. After asking rudely for ID which I gave her nicely she ignored me for two guys and then when I was leaving said a very snide remark.

So this is a nice American grill on the top of a large retail centre. It probably wouldn't be a destination were it not for the shops. But the food is good and we found the service just fine - although it was not that busy when we were there. A good place for post-retail food (and wine) therapy.

We have always had a good experience there. I like to get a booth in the back and listen to the music, have a little food and a couple of drinks. There is an enclosed smoking patio. It feels like a safe haven in the city with parking right around the corner. We have been there several times.

Staying in Downtown

Neighborhood Profile
Downtown
Downtown Los Angeles is a busy metropolis of towering buildings, bustling streets, and industrial warehouses. There is a distinct multiplicity of cultures here with a growing influx of business professionals and hipsters. Many call the evolution of Downtown over recent years gentrification. New lofts, bars, hotels and restaurants are popping up regularly. Downtown is home to some of the very best restaurants in the city leading the LA foodie scene, plus it is the location of cultural and sports venues including the Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Staples Center, and the Coliseum at the University of Southern California.
