This was an excellent surprise, don't let the exterior of the building fool you! I had dinner here with a colleague and both of us left full and happy. Parking is a challenge, but that's the case everywhere. Food was very good and authentic Italian. The décor was understated, almost casual. Service was excellent. Bathroom (shared with bar next door)... More

You pass by Cantalini's when you pass through Playa del Rey - it's impossible to miss. It's old school neighborhood Italian: red walls, photos of stars from the 70s (and before), a live quartet. Friendly service, a mix of local clientele and Loyola Marymount parents and students. A cute place -- you could be in Boston or NY. Decent enough... More

I eat out a lot all over the world and this restaurant had the best gnocchi ever! Covered with a garlic cream sauce, peas and procoutto and I added grilled chicken to the dish. The gnocchi were dense and fresh. The chicken was cooked perfectly. My dish was worth every penny at $22, especially cause I didn't have to pay! The... More

This restaurant has lots of pictures of famous people festooned around the walls. Some have actually eaten there and others were acquaintences of the prior owner. The tables all have flowers and cute placemats showing a map of Italy and some tourist information. I had the spaghetti and meat sauce with a side salad; both were good although I should... More

We had passed Cantalini's a hundred times while biking through Playa del Rey, but we finally stopped for an early dinner. Elie was our waiter, he is Greek/Italian and we got along great as the night wore on. My wife and sister in law had salads and pizza, while I ordered pasta with Italian sausage. My salad, mixed greens, was... More

Great local spot - very near the beach. Service is very friendly. Food is excellent. I had the chicken parm, which was great - my colleagues had the chicken vesuvio which was also excellent. Ambiance is nice. Only downside - they don't have AC - normally not an issue in Playa Del Ray - but I was there during a... More

Went in for my favorite, Veal Parm… I wasn't disappointed. The service was OK. The food was as good as ever. I started with the minestrone. It was an excellent batch. The veal was awesome. Highly recommend if you are in the area. Cafe Pinguini across the street does not compare to this home-style cooking place.

Some friends that live nearby this restaurant invited us for a casual meal. My first time in Playa Del Rey. Both the area and this restaurant are charming. Parking a little difficult [make sure to read posted parking restrictions]. The restaurant was super busy, so the service was a little slow. The appetizers were great, scampi, soup, salads, etc. However,... More

While on a girls getaway to LA, we stayed at the Inn at Playa del Rey which is a short walk from the restaurant. On our first night in town we walked over for dinner and were delighted with the food. One of my friends declared the Penne a la Vodka the best she ever had and I loved the... More

In a recent trip to LA, I had the opportunity to dine at Cantalini's. It has the familiar feel of a small family Italian restaurant. You have the sense that many of the patron's are regulars, bantering back and forth with the staff. That said, the service for the new patrons (including our group) was lacking. It took a while...
