Amazing meal - from the attentive but not over-the-top service, to the food, to the presentation. Without a written menu, every course came as a lovely surprise, and all were phenomenal. A perfect orchestration of flavors. Plus nice touches like some of the produce being from the chef's garden. Yes, it's expensive, but Chef Nakayama is a genius. The place... More

Expect to enjoy a two-plus hour true kaiseki. There is a wining paring offer; we chose to sample various sake... and I believe a better experience. The staff is caring- asking if the pace of the thirteen courses was as we would like it to be.... explaining each creation and its origin... when I inquired about the wonderful tea, a... More

Immaculate attention to detail of service: explanation of each presentation, watchful eye of bus boy to remove remnants of beautiful platings, wine bottle kept in ice bucket close by and poured when needed, black lacquer tray cleaned for next presentation--could well have been in Old Japan, austere surroundings, delightful kaiseki dinner which is only thing served.

Wow! What an incredible evening. What a journey of incredible tastes! This place is amazing! The decor is simple, zen. No sign outside. Just a feeling of peace and elegance when you walk into the simple room. The service is impeccable. Our waitress became our friend and guide on this amazing journey of tastes. The food was fabulous and so... More

Everything, from the reception was perfect. Entire team was really aware of all plates and all we're very special. Yuna (sorry if I wrote it wrong) was my attendant and it was perfect, any flavor, wine pairing and experience she knew how to explain to me. The great final was when the chef came for a little chat, she was... More

Be prepared to have your life changed.. I meant your sushi or Japanese life changed. Never knew i'd found such a gem in LA! Located at not such a good location, n/naka turns out to be the best Japanese restaurant I have ever eaten at in LA! Even better than Urasawa! Yep, read that right.

Chef Niki Nakayama's modern take on kaiseki is a 14 (I think, I lost count) course tour of the best ideas in japanese cuisine with a few twists that make the whole experience feel delightful with each course. By the time you get to the three sushi courses served in rapid succession near the end of the meal, you have... More

This is my current favorite Los Angeles restaurant. There is nothing that I do not love about the place: the service, the ambiance, the food, the plating and the general vibe of elegant modesty. You would never know that this smallish 24 to 30 seater is LA's finest for quality of food, service and ambiance. Chef Niki Nakayama's creativity is... More

This review is based on a dinner for four along with the sake pairing from last year. I can't believe that this restaurant does not get more press, and I think it is a travesty that this restaurant does not have at least two Michelin stars. It easily blows away the other Michelin-starred restaurants in LA, and it belongs in... More

From start to finish, each bite was explained to us.. It is a seasonal menu featuring fresh food, especially accompanied by garden-grown veggies. The sushi was divine. We have never had rice so perfect. The plating and sequence of dishes was exacting, and the sake selection was so impressive. The chef is so celebrated, we were surprised to see her... More
