My wife and I love to vacation in downtowns of big cities and find the best restaurants - seldom patronizing the same eatery twice in a single trip. But Café Pinot was so good on our first night in LA that we violated our rule and enjoyed it again on our last night. What was good about it? Well ...... More

We had a wonderful dinner on a recent Saturday night at Cafe Pinot [a sister restaurant to Pinot Provence in Costa Mesa, CA]. The service was absolutely outstanding, from our initial greeting by the hostess through the entire meal. It was a beautiful, clear evening, so we chose to sit on the patio behind the restaurant's free-standing building, looking out... More

Restaurant ambience is great but the food did not match. We had late reservations - 8:00pm. Our server was Joseph and he was excellent. Several of us wanted to order the sea bass, however they were out of it and substituted turbot. The menu stated it was prepared with a blood orange vinaigrette but the fish had no citrus flavor... The organizers of a workshop at USC invited participant to a small banquet at this restaurant. The food was excellent and overall the banquet was an enjoyable experience. I do not remember much about the dishes that I had (squash soup; some sort of seafood as a main course) but the food was delicious and nicely presented and I will... More

I had lunch here earlier this month while in town working with my boss. We were the first to arrive at 11:30am on a Friday, so had immediate seating. The dining room is well lit with natural light, and it was a touch too cool to sit outside so we had a table along the window. Service was excellent, friendly... More

Situated right by the LA library, and across the street from the US Bank building(tallest building in LA). I've been here for lunch and dinner, and I would say dinner is a much better overall experience. The dishes felt like they were given more attention to detail, and focus. Very high quality of ingredients, and probably one of Downtown LA's... More

This restaurant is a gem in downtown Los Angeles next door to the old public library. It actually seems remote, given it's very urban location. But the good news is that the food has that French flair that is unusual in the US, especially in LA. The main courses are reasonably priced and impeccably served in an upscale fashion -... More

A friend and colleague hosted a dinner at Cafe Pinot to introduce me to a group of 12-15 interesting people. Staying in Downtown

Neighborhood Profile
Downtown
Downtown Los Angeles is a busy metropolis of towering buildings, bustling streets, and industrial warehouses. There is a distinct multiplicity of cultures here with a growing influx of business professionals and hipsters. Many call the evolution of Downtown over recent years gentrification. New lofts, bars, hotels and restaurants are popping up regularly. Downtown is home to some of the very best restaurants in the city leading the LA foodie scene, plus it is the location of cultural and sports venues including the Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Staples Center, and the Coliseum at the University of Southern California.
