Super Deli in LA

Place is a little dated but that was part of the charm for me. As a newbie to the LA area, I am so glad my other NYC transplant friends introduced me to this "authentic" NYC type deli with great and friendly service! This place has gone down the last few years. Both dining rooms are noisy (the second is separated by a wooden lattice from the loud bar next door (where you go to the restrooms, actually). The pastrami has sugar, the beans have sugar, even the lame beet borscht is sweetened. The servings are small. I had some pasta that was... More

We went to Canters, my family said we had to go, after a music event, so late in the evening. The menu takes days to read, but just go straight to the pastrami. I figured I should order what I love in a place that is supposed to be so good, and I am telling you, it is that good.... More

I had the pleasure of dining at Canter's Deli recently with my husband, daughter, and son who recently moved to Los Angeles. We went in for a quick dinner before plans for a comedy show nearby. Having been to places like Katz's Deli, & Carnegie Deli in NYC, where the 'strami sandwich is considered sacred grounds, and Harold's Deli in... More

We ate here last week and the food was good with generous portions. I do think the prices were a little high for sandwiches though.

Open 24 hours but get there before 10:30 for the breakfast specials. The decor has not been changed since the 60's it seems like the place is stuck in a time warp! But in a good way. Check out the ceiling, you won't see that anywhere else.

My daughter lives in L.A. now so we always go to Canters deli once or twice when we visit her. It is fun and the food is good and reasonably priced. Just a real throwback to the 50s-60s!

I've always wanted to try Canter's. It's really an historic deli going back more than 50 years. People have told me, if you want NY style deli and you're on the West Coast, Canter's is the only place to go. That may have been true 50 years ago, but the restaurant sure has deteriorated since then. My wife and I... More

I was with a group on a bus tour of Hollywood, Beverly Hills, etc. and we passed by Canter's. When we were dropped off at the Grove, I persuaded some colleagues to walk a few blocks to Canters. Wow, were we impressed. It was kind of a trip back in time. This place was really fun. Love the Reuben sandwiches------pastrami... More

I ate at Canter's Deli recently and was impressed. Reasonable prices, great food, and very good service. Plus, they brought us lots of pickles! I would recommend it.
