Very disappointed

When I moved to LA, everyone told us that Canter's was THE Jewish deli to go to. Obviously I thought it would be amazing and that wasn't the case. The patty melt was dry, pickles were salt cured not sour, and the baked goods bland. Overall nothing was a hit. To top it all off, the very old building... read more

People seem to like Canter's for nostalgic reasons. The food is OK, and a bit overpriced for what it is. But the service is awful. If you like your restaurant servers to be rude and treat you like crap, then Canter's is the place for you.

I was with my good friend from highschool! I had a great Reuben, stuffed cabbage roll, & a vanilla egg cream with a side of dill pickles. It was perfect. Service is top notch too! Canter's lives up to it's reputation.

We were visiting LA and I had see reviews of Canter's and wanted to try it. So happy we tried it out. Everything was so good. I am a very picky eater and found several items on the menu that I wanted to try. I ended up having the Matzo ball soup, Avacado melt, and fruit. It was delicious! My... More

Typical slightly boring food, I suppose unless if you go for pastry, but iconic none the less. It's a bit old but open late!

So on my Jewish husband's last trip to LA, some 20 years ago, he relays a story about having a dream that he had indigestion having eaten Canter's coffee cake at 3am. Nothing unusual there except that it wasn't a dream. So off we went all 7 of us, to queue for amongst other things, coffee cake. We split into... More

..fashioned restrooms. Why in this day and age does an establishment think that they can get away with keeping 1940's toilets. It's shame as Canter's is an icon and the poor lavatories reflects on LA as a whole. Other than that the food is great. Just go before you go is my suggestion and keep some antiseptic wipes with you.

Lunch on a Sunday with my 92 y/o grandmother and Cheryl was our server. Canter's is not a fine dining place, nor does it claim to be, it is simply excellent food and great service. Gary, one of the owners and grandson of the founders, came by our table several times just to make sure everything was excellent and to... More

The reason to visit this take on a jewish deli/dinner (think Katz's in NYC) is that it is iconic and you'll see it in movies and TV shows from time to time. The reason to not visit again is that the food, at best, is just what you could get for half the price at a supermarket and make yourself.... More

We were looking for a place that was open since it was a national holiday so we thought we'd visit Canter's Deli again. It's such a wonderful place, we always expect to wait for a table so we did not mind. Once seated, I was delighted to see such a bustling dining room full of happy diners. The staff were... More
