Nyala was one of regular favorites when we lived in Los Angeles 15 years ago. Being able to walk to casual dinner in a large city was wonderful. While Fairfax Ave. has many Ethiopian restaurants, Nyala is still the best. We were not disappointed with the meal and realized how much we missed having access to this restaurant on a... More

We've been to Nyala several times and the vegetarians & meat eaters in our group are always happy. The food is tasty, mildly spicy & served with a spongy large flat bread - the idea being to eat everything with your fingers, scooping it all up with the bread. ( Of course, if you asked, they would bring silverware )... More

I enjoyed my spicy lamb dish. My husband doesn't like spicy food and got a really tasty, but not spicy, fish dish. Very reasonable lunch prices and all the injera you can eat.

On a previous visit, my wife experienced eating at Nyala. She insisted that I try it on our current visit. This was a great meal. You can choose between a meal with meat or go vegetarian. We tried both. A special bread is provided and you break a piece off and scoop the food. It was difficult to stop because... More

My friend and I went for lunch on a Saturday. There's a small African display in back, but otherwise there's no specific atmosphere aside from some pictures/paintings. The food was okay (I've had better Ethiopian). The chicken had some gristle, which under a heavy dark sauce is hard to see until you bite down. The lamb was okay, but the... More

This is a quiet restaurant with a strong Ethiopian atmosphere. We went on a Friday evening and had no trouble getting a table. Three of us shared three dishes (chicken, lamb, and beef) served along with a salad and a lentil dish on an injera "platter". There was more injera in a basket which we tore off to eat with... More

We discovered Little Ethiopia on a previous visit to LA, and were determined to go back. We decided to try Nyala this time. We arrived early on a Saturday night, and had no problems getting a table for two. We ordered the meat combo and the veggie combo to get a good cross-section of the offerings. We liked the spicing:... More

We were enjoying a drive towards a friend's house when we passed a number of Ethiopian restaurants and decided to stop. Nyala was convenient so we entered. We had very good food and were very well served. We had primarily vegetarian food but the fish was the greatest hit. I recommend this place. A

Had dinner with family at Nyala Ethiopian Cuisine. We ordered the “Doro Wat” (chicken in spicy sauce) and the “Tibs” (chunks of lamb with carrots and onions). They were served together on a large "injera" sourdough flatbread, surrounded by salad, lentils, and vegetables. The chicken and vegetables were excellent, but the lamb was a bit disappointing—it was a bit boney.... More

Two couples and we dined here at night. Had Ethiopian beers and the combo on the spongy bread. Vegetarian, chicken and goat meat. All were delicious and easy to eat on the bread. (We ate it like you would a pizza). Service was excellent and it was reasonably priced. The restaurant had a cozy atmosphere and it provided for a... More
