Good food but don't expect American standard portions

Was out there for lunch. .. the menu has choice of vegetarian and non veg. .. the veggies, pulses have similar prep as Indian style minus the spices. .. the chicken or lamb or beef is almost like rustic Indian prep with spices minus the heat... value for money .. yes. .. taste .. good. . Ambience... read more

Probably one of the best Ethiopian restaurant in town. Tasty food. Friendly staff. Affordable price. Will definitely get the Meat combo where u can sample a variety of dishes and the veggie combo. Each of that is about $12. That two combo can feed 4 adults or 3 ravenous teenagers. :) If need be add a Doro tibs. That's only... More

Having lived in the Los Angeles Area for more than 10 years, we have tried a variety of options, and Nyala is DEFINITELY at the top of our list. Expect an authentic Ethiopian experience full of flavor and spice. Go Nyala!

Went on Sunday afternoon for early dinner. Service was very fast. Ordered one vegetable sampler and one meat sampler. Many Ethiopian restaurant are stingy with the injera. This one is not. Had more than enough. As some reviewers have noted, the decor has seen better days, but the restaurant is very clean. Our server was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about... More

Nyala was one of regular favorites when we lived in Los Angeles 15 years ago. Being able to walk to casual dinner in a large city was wonderful. While Fairfax Ave. has many Ethiopian restaurants, Nyala is still the best. We were not disappointed with the meal and realized how much we missed having access to this restaurant on a... More

We've been to Nyala several times and the vegetarians & meat eaters in our group are always happy. The food is tasty, mildly spicy & served with a spongy large flat bread - the idea being to eat everything with your fingers, scooping it all up with the bread. ( Of course, if you asked, they would bring silverware )... More

I enjoyed my spicy lamb dish. My husband doesn't like spicy food and got a really tasty, but not spicy, fish dish. Very reasonable lunch prices and all the injera you can eat.

On a previous visit, my wife experienced eating at Nyala. She insisted that I try it on our current visit. This was a great meal. You can choose between a meal with meat or go vegetarian. We tried both. A special bread is provided and you break a piece off and scoop the food. It was difficult to stop because... More

My friend and I went for lunch on a Saturday. There's a small African display in back, but otherwise there's no specific atmosphere aside from some pictures/paintings. The food was okay (I've had better Ethiopian). The chicken had some gristle, which under a heavy dark sauce is hard to see until you bite down. The lamb was okay, but the... More

This is a quiet restaurant with a strong Ethiopian atmosphere. We went on a Friday evening and had no trouble getting a table. Three of us shared three dishes (chicken, lamb, and beef) served along with a salad and a lentil dish on an injera "platter". There was more injera in a basket which we tore off to eat with... More
