After making my reservation at the Sushi Bar, I get a call back saying that they only serve Omakase (Chef serves whatever's good without you ordering). I prefer Okonomi (which is standard even at the best Sushi restaurants in Japan) where you order what you want at your own pace. I grew up in Japan having eaten at some of... More

if you go to sasabune in brentwood, expect fairly high-end sushi but a pretty dull and uninspired atmosphere which dampens the whole experience. Even by relatively laid back LA standards, it is pretty run down. A family occupied a large central table, the best dressed of whom wore a basketball jersey with cutoffs and unlaced hightops. Most others were dressed... More

We were fans of the old location and keen to try the newer, hipper (and smaller) location in Brentwood. We were not disappointed. The decor is more attractive but everybody comes here for...the fish! The reason to go to Sasabune is simple...the fish tastes so good that you don't need fancy rolls or sauces. It's a must do for any... More

I went back to Sasabune after an absence of 12 years. Since then they have moved to fancier digs but the fish is still awesome. This time I had Omikase and let the chef do the thinking. Great call!

I used to love this place when it was on Sawtelle. Since their move to Wilshire, I have had mixed experience. They definitely have quality sushi though. I believe I got the chief's special all five of my visits. First three on Sawtelle and last two at Wilshire. I stopped going there after a bad experience my last visit 2... More

I was introduced to this place by dear friends from Santa Monica, we had 4 omikasa that went amazing. Many portions cam seasoned, and they all seam to be the freshest and best sushi. The sake was very good as well. We loved it!!!

This restaurant downsized and moved to a location less than a mile from the previous. Get the sequence until your stomach says "stop" - but you will love every course. The sashimi first course is superb.

I walked into Sasabune on a whim after a recommendation from a friend and managed to get a seat at the bar in front of their master sushi chefs, despite the fact that the place was rammed on a Saturday night. I ordered in some tea, but never got the chance to see a menu at all before chef Nobi... More

It's all about the fish at Sasabune. I've been eating at Sasabune-sensei's various establishments for 30 years (!), going all the way back to his early days on Sawtelle, and he serves the best sushi in town. Great selection of fish and crustaceans. A wonderful meal. No frills surroundings, but friendly and personal service.

I had Omakase for the first time here. Omakase simply means 'Trust the chef' or 'Leave it up to us'. This meant that rather than select our choice form the menu we would leave it to the chef to build the courses and the food that was served to us. We had tuna, uni, salmon, mushroom, crab, meltingly soft shrimp... More
