93 year old restaurant still going strong

We ate lunch here yesterday with my sister and brother in-law. We sat in a booth in the bar area, and I wouldn't do that again. One of the other booths, or the other room is better. It is decorated with pieces of Scottish Tartans, and decorations. Busy at lunch. The food was good, with the... read more

Actually a registered historical sight this place has a lot of charm. It has been a familiar landmark since the 1920s. Looks like an inn built in England some 300 years ago. Heavy roughhewn beams on the interior give it an authentic look and a wonderful atmosphere. Food is classic American and is very good. A must for those who... More

The Tam O'Shanter is an unexpected restaurant for the Los Angeles area. It has an old world Europe feel to it and specializes in prime rib. It is an older restaurant (one of Walt Disney's favorites in fact), an is a nice relief from the ultra modern attempts at chic restaurants to populate the area. The food was very good.... More

While the food is almost always excellent, I felt a sense of malaise, as if the restaurant was bored with it's own existence. They have tried a 'new' menu with new (and somewhat highly-priced' entrees and appetizers. It seems that they want to attract the younger 20-30 crowd. The new 'Lightning Bolt' logo appears out of place in the pseudo-English... More

The Tam is in walking distance from our house. We've been there many times. What we love is its consistency, good service and friendly admosphere. The Martinis are great too. No special bar tender instructions necessary.

Before our visit to LA, we asked some former Angelenos for some restaurant recommendations. The Tam's name came up three times and we tried it and were not disappointed. Apparently, the restaurant is over 90 years old, so it must be doing something right. We were told that the prime rib was the specialty of the house and it was,... More

The Tam has become "the" place for the ladies of the Southern California Branch of the Clan Donnachaidh Society to get together for a meal and a chat. Fabulous food, incredible ambiance, world class service. If we have something to celebrate, we celebrate at the Tam.

Second visit here and I have to say just as great as the first. Come with an appetite, you will be filled up. EXCELLENT Prime Rib. Excellent everything. Make sure to save room for a chocolate soufflé or a chocolate fudge sundae. Next time I am wearing my kilt!!

It was very busy the night we were there because of the holidays. The Christmas carolers were very nice but my food cooled off while being polite to listen as they sang at the table. The restaurant was crowded and not much room between each table so it made to a noisy dining event. The food was very good. I... More

Unable to get a reservation because of the holiday season, we ventured into the bar area where none are required or even taken. Although it was packed, the staff immediately took an interest in finding us a table. We were seated faster than expected and quickly served our prime rib, Yorkshire pudding, pot roast and brussels sprouts. Everything was cooked... More
