A Refreshing Find!

It was my first time at the LA ArtWalk and I arrived early, so my cousin & I decided to check our this funny little place that looked like it had an interesting menu. It was 5:30, and fairly empty, but we decided to give it a try because we were intrigued; was it Spanish cuisine or what? There... read more

Everything here was so delicious and full of flavor. I visited back in May with some friends and still remember the fresh full punch of flavor of the ceviche two months later.

Grabbed a work dinner here based on a recommendation. Managed to get here early enough that we didn't need a reservation. Ordered the lamb riblet, grilled octopus, daurade and pear salad. The food was all good and the beers on tap were great. What surprised me was how fast the food came out. Our server was attentive without being pushy.

I love downtown LA...it's edgy so there's lots of new creative restaurants opening up. This is tapas style and fantastic. Only one I'd pass on is risotto fritters, otherwise all was yummy, esp the lamb! Great casual, old Euro cafe feel.

Although some rave about the vegetarian offerings -- and they are indeed great -- I can vouch for the non-vegetarian items as well. Two of us went to Baco on a Wednesday evening after work and could only be seated at the bar, but that was fine. For table service, you should make a reservation, even mid-week. The craft cocktails... More

First the vocabulary...baco is a sandwich which is wrapped in delicious pita like bread, coca uses flatbread and is something like a pizza. These are filled or topped with pork, lamb, cheese, merguez sausage, vegetables, etc. A few of these shared are a meal in itself. But there is more, as one can order full dinner plates, salads and there... More

If u are vegetarian this place is a treat for u, but then again u shud have taste that is eclectic and a pallet that is happy to experiment. The service, food & ambiance and is causal yet meets the required standards. Great little spot in downtown.

Went to meet a fellow photographer there on a Wednesday night, couldn't get a reservation, and the bar area was packed, but we still managed to get two spots at the end. I wish I could remember the bar staff's names; my memory isn't the best these days, but the service was excellent. Brought our drinks over quickly and the... More

Went here for a bite to eat with a friend and had a lovely evening. Sat outside (cooler and quieter) and had great service. The salted cod with egg, rice and potato was superb. I couldn't stop eating it!!! Other dishes of the shrimp baco, patas bravas and the cauliflower were also very good, but the cod was outstanding. Inventive... More

Baco Mercat is a go to place for exciting small plates and an evolving palate that continues to surprise and impress in subsequent visits. A simple spaghetti and meatballs or a more adventurous fusion dish will excite all your culinary senses. And the homemade sodas continue to impress with their inventiveness and subtlety of flavor. A must visit.

Staying in Downtown

Neighborhood Profile
Downtown
Downtown Los Angeles is a busy metropolis of towering buildings, bustling streets, and industrial warehouses. There is a distinct multiplicity of cultures here with a growing influx of business professionals and hipsters. Many call the evolution of Downtown over recent years gentrification. New lofts, bars, hotels and restaurants are popping up regularly. Downtown is home to some of the very best restaurants in the city leading the LA foodie scene, plus it is the location of cultural and sports venues including the Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Staples Center, and the Coliseum at the University of Southern California.
