Exciting, unique, and delicious!

Josef Centeno's casual eatery never disappoints. This is my favorite downtown LA lunch spot. The food is innovative, fresh, flavorful, and delicious! Centeno's use of vegetables is genious, and the "bacos" that the restaurant is named for (think cross between a burger and a taco) are killer. The... read more

Came here and got 10 plates shared between friends. Truly an incredible eating experience! If you enjoy good food you will not be disappointed with this place. Even the shrimp sandwich was amazing. Don't miss the dessert!

Baco Mercat this is TAPAS! In downtown los angeles Baco is one of the best places i have been for tapas. Food cooked at perfection, schiacciata or what they call flatbread is delicious especially the mushroom and egg version. We had twice. The roasted califlower and the pasta is great. The service and location also very nice. Will be back... More

This restaurant, in an improving historic neighborhood, is one of a group of casual places with imaginative offerings run by Chef Centeno. Lots of appealing vegetable dishes, and very apt use of herbs and spices; e.g., the hamachi crudo with Abkhazian (!) spices in the sauce (quite delicious). Part of the enjoyment is knowing it's all good for you while... More

Really enjoyed my dinner here last night. I chose this restaurant based on a recommendation of a foodie friend who told me about it. He was right! We started with a tasty eggplant dip that came with fresh-made bread. It was interesting and very nice. My friend and I each had the "Baco" sandwiches and side dishes, as we wanted... More

I attended a business dinner and by the end it felt more like a family dinner. The atmosphere was great and the wait staff was friendly and attentive. With so many unique tapas, all of our tastes were satisfied and we shared everything. My favorites were the double mushroom flatbread and the bacon wrapped hen. Can't wait to go back... More

My friend and I had an early supper at this restaurant while in LA. The fried ricotta was delicious. It was a Saturday night and the restaurant was very crowded and noisy. We were lucky to get two seats at the bar as we did not have reservations. The menu is eclectic and everything looked and smelled wonderful

The food was so delicious, full of flavor heat acid everything to delight the palate. Lovely patio table on a perfect day. Service was slightly poor as we had several different servers and received our hamachi crudo, which was most excellent after our mains. Homemade sodas were great, we had the grapefruit and ginger. The bodinga flatbread was off the... More

This is a great spot for lunch with sidewalk seating under a canopy. Large area inside with bar but a bit dark for me. Imaginative menu with the Baco which is a bread that is a combo of naan and pita. Soft and chewy like naan but thin like pita. The Baco is STUFFED with lots of greta healthy items.... More

Don't get me wrong, I love the food at this imaginative and innovative spot. But on a recent Sunday brunch visit the service could not have been more inattentive or careless. We repeatedly asked for dishes to be served sans onions as one of our party was highly allergic. That request fell on deaf ears as did our request to... More

Staying in Downtown

Neighborhood Profile
Downtown
Downtown Los Angeles is a busy metropolis of towering buildings, bustling streets, and industrial warehouses. There is a distinct multiplicity of cultures here with a growing influx of business professionals and hipsters. Many call the evolution of Downtown over recent years gentrification. New lofts, bars, hotels and restaurants are popping up regularly. Downtown is home to some of the very best restaurants in the city leading the LA foodie scene, plus it is the location of cultural and sports venues including the Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Staples Center, and the Coliseum at the University of Southern California.
