Baco Mercat is a go to place for exciting small plates and an evolving palate that continues to surprise and impress in subsequent visits. A simple spaghetti and meatballs or a more adventurous fusion dish will excite all your culinary senses. And the homemade sodas continue to impress with their inventiveness and subtlety of flavor. A must visit.

Baco Mercat is a modern, hip restaurant with super good food and awesome presentation. The food is artful. Even better, it tastes super good. I had the chicken ribs and they were to die for. Some of the best chicken I have ever had! Tender, slightly crispy, delightful. Had the cheese plate for dessert and it was beautifully presented. Topped... More

Such a great member of the Josef Centeno family. Warmer and more relaxed than the also delicious Bar Ama, though we were here early and seated in a nice corner, Baco Mercat is a great place to grab a cocktail and any amount of food, from a quick snack to a shared-plates meal. The Yellowtail was AMAZING, as was the... More

Way freakin tasty sandwiches. I'm coming back. I had the original. It's not quite pita bread, not quite carnitas and filled with argulla and stuff. Hipster atmosphere with exposed bricks and air vents. Great staff that are pleasant, professional and friendly.

in 2013, I landed for the first time in LAX and arrived at my hotel at 9pm in the evening. Having no clue where I was staying (Downtown LA) and being starved, me and my buddy started to walk down the street for some food. We're europeans and we adooore food, so we weren't ready for settling for fast food... More

BC was on my list for 2 year and they did not dissappoint. great food wine and cocktails. The octopuls and chorizo salad was great as was the BAco shrimp sandwich. Because most of the place are small you won't be unhappy. go have a great time and enjoy.

Josef Centeno's casual eatery never disappoints. This is my favorite downtown LA lunch spot. The food is innovative, fresh, flavorful, and delicious! Centeno's use of vegetables is genious, and the "bacos" that the restaurant is named for (think cross between a burger and a taco) are killer. The Toron has been on the Food Network as one of the 10... More

Came here and got 10 plates shared between friends. Truly an incredible eating experience! If you enjoy good food you will not be disappointed with this place. Even the shrimp sandwich was amazing. Don't miss the dessert!

Baco Mercat this is TAPAS! In downtown los angeles Baco is one of the best places i have been for tapas. Food cooked at perfection, schiacciata or what they call flatbread is delicious especially the mushroom and egg version. We had twice. The roasted califlower and the pasta is great. The service and location also very nice. Will be back... More

This restaurant, in an improving historic neighborhood, is one of a group of casual places with imaginative offerings run by Chef Centeno. Lots of appealing vegetable dishes, and very apt use of herbs and spices; e.g., the hamachi crudo with Abkhazian (!) spices in the sauce (quite delicious). Part of the enjoyment is knowing it's all good for you while... More

Staying in Downtown

Neighborhood Profile
Downtown
Downtown Los Angeles is a busy metropolis of towering buildings, bustling streets, and industrial warehouses. There is a distinct multiplicity of cultures here with a growing influx of business professionals and hipsters. Many call the evolution of Downtown over recent years gentrification. New lofts, bars, hotels and restaurants are popping up regularly. Downtown is home to some of the very best restaurants in the city leading the LA foodie scene, plus it is the location of cultural and sports venues including the Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Staples Center, and the Coliseum at the University of Southern California.
