Breakfast and more

We tried the maple bacon & Nutella Donuts for our breakfast appetizer.. although, both good, the nutella won. Five of us ate here.. DELICIOUS and loved the whimsical atmosphere.

We used to live a couple blocks away from the Nickel Diner, would go quite a bit. My wife loves it, to me it's not bad. Other than the pulled pork sandwich, I couldn't find anything that was really good, just good. But since my wife loves it, we would go a lot. They have some different dishes than the... More

Don't go here expecting health food, it is decadent and delicious. I personally had the homemade poptart (awesome, tasted just like what I make at home) and SOME of the 5th & Main. Definitely could not finish it, but it was really good. Tip: Had some trouble at check out. I asked to split our ticket, because we were out... More

Great traditional US food.....order a mixture of food to share as portions are big...like the fries a lot. Parking is tougher to find on the the weekend....flat rate parking at the surrounding areas is around US$6-8....you might just need to do that as street parking is few and far between on Sunday (it is free). Expect to wait a little... More

We eat here often, as it's 2 blocks away, and the food is good, and the prices are fair. It's where most locals go for breakfast, and opens at 8am, and closes after lunch is over. No dinners served here, but still great.

My family was exploring downtown LA, desperate to find someplace good to eat for a late lunch on a Saturday. With the help of TA, we made our way to the Nickel Diner. We loved the look and feel of the place, and quickly found out that the food and service were pretty good, too. While the breakfast options looked... More

Service was fast and friendly and the food really hit the spot. Ideal for brunch, we visited a few times during our short stay, sampling different items on the menu - including the maple-glazed bacon doughnut - and left happy and content each time. Very affordable and very filling!

The food at this diner is fabulous. It's traditional diner food, but with a modern twist. The portions are also humongous. The staff is friendly. The owner (I think) kept coming by asking how things were and chatting. They are famous for their macon bacon donuts so we tried them, but I did not like them. They were just too... More

We arrived right at 8:00am and were seated immediately. The small restaurant was like going back in time. Beautiful decor and fast service. The mimosas are big and the food hearty. You HAVE to order the maple bacon donuts. They are the best that I've ever had. So fresh and with the perfect amount of bacon.

Really a fun place. It's been a while since we've been to downtown L.A., especially in the area where this diner is located. After a 45 minute drive to get there, with found parking easily. Parking lots and curb parking everywhere. We went on a Sunday, so that may have attributed to our luck. Having been born and raised in... More

Neighborhood Profile
Downtown
Downtown Los Angeles is a busy metropolis of towering buildings, bustling streets, and industrial warehouses. There is a distinct multiplicity of cultures here with a growing influx of business professionals and hipsters. Many call the evolution of Downtown over recent years gentrification. New lofts, bars, hotels and restaurants are popping up regularly. Downtown is home to some of the very best restaurants in the city leading the LA foodie scene, plus it is the location of cultural and sports venues including the Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Staples Center, and the Coliseum at the University of Southern California.
