Good enough for Dylan, good enough for us!

Discovered the 5c Diner by complete accident, what a lucky find. Great food, great staff & friendly atmosphere. Had a lovely meal and a fun and interesting chat with the owner Kristen and her mum, who showed us old photos of the place and filled us in on the history of the place pre revamp. Whenever my wife and I go up to Downtown Los Angeles from San Clemente to visit my wife's hairdresser at The Loft at 6th. and Main, we stop at the Nickle Diner. Today I went in alone to just get a biscuit to-go and was refused service due to their $10.00 minimum credit card policy. How ridiculous. The restaurant is... More

I have heard about the Nickel Diner off and on for a while due to it's review on Diners, Drive-In's & Dives, so I thought I'd try breakfast. Here's my take: The food was very good, maybe above average, the service was above-average, and the location is just so, so. I had the breakfast burrito (eggs, chorizo, etc.) with a... More

Stopped in for take out at lunch time. What I liked: -Server was polite and helpful -Prices were more than fair given the quality and quantity of food -Food was exceptionally tasty -I had a pulled pork medley with potato chunks and a scrambled egg served on top...all covered with a barbq sauce. It was awesome. What I did not... More

Food is amazing...good price. It was worth the wait. Been there 3 times for lunch and tried different menu items each time and food is really good.

We tried the maple bacon & Nutella Donuts for our breakfast appetizer.. although, both good, the nutella won. Five of us ate here.. DELICIOUS and loved the whimsical atmosphere.

We used to live a couple blocks away from the Nickel Diner, would go quite a bit. My wife loves it, to me it's not bad. Other than the pulled pork sandwich, I couldn't find anything that was really good, just good. But since my wife loves it, we would go a lot. They have some different dishes than the... More

Don't go here expecting health food, it is decadent and delicious. I personally had the homemade poptart (awesome, tasted just like what I make at home) and SOME of the 5th & Main. Definitely could not finish it, but it was really good. Tip: Had some trouble at check out. I asked to split our ticket, because we were out... More

Great traditional US food.....order a mixture of food to share as portions are big...like the fries a lot. Parking is tougher to find on the the weekend....flat rate parking at the surrounding areas is around US$6-8....you might just need to do that as street parking is few and far between on Sunday (it is free). Expect to wait a little... More

We eat here often, as it's 2 blocks away, and the food is good, and the prices are fair. It's where most locals go for breakfast, and opens at 8am, and closes after lunch is over. No dinners served here, but still great.

Neighborhood Profile
Downtown
Downtown Los Angeles is a busy metropolis of towering buildings, bustling streets, and industrial warehouses. There is a distinct multiplicity of cultures here with a growing influx of business professionals and hipsters. Many call the evolution of Downtown over recent years gentrification. New lofts, bars, hotels and restaurants are popping up regularly. Downtown is home to some of the very best restaurants in the city leading the LA foodie scene, plus it is the location of cultural and sports venues including the Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Staples Center, and the Coliseum at the University of Southern California.
