An Authentic L.A. Experience

Down a quiet section of Main St. with little else but a massive parking structure and construction sites hides the Nickel Diner. We went for dinner on a Friday night and were not disappointed. I saw this place on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, so I figured I'd give it a shot. Had to wait a few minutes, but the breakfast came out in minutes and it was really delicious. I had eggs and corned beef, which was sliced thick and juicy... Couldn't resist the urge to have a homemade apple pop tart for dessert.... More

If you have never visited the Nickel Diner, plan to do so on your next visit to downtown Los Angeles. This diner puts out food that is superior to many of the finer restaurants in Los Angeles, all served in authentic, old-school, diner ambiance. Menu items are prepared with fresh local ingredients when ever possible. For our Sunday brunch, my... More

Heard good things about nickel diner, so we went before 10 to avoid the crazy weekend lines. Got seated right away and the service was great. It's nothing that special and the food is average. I had the huevos rancheros, it did the job but no need to rush back. My friend did order their homemade pop tart to go... More

I LOVED our server, the food was good BUT I hate a dirty restaurant. My seat, the table and everything on it was dirty. Even the silverware had to have a second set brought over. Please, take the stuff off the table and wipe it down, gross! Take a moment, I know you have a line out the door but... More

The Nickel Diner serves up lots of good diner style food in a cool venue. It's a popular place (especially for weekend brunch-time eats), so plan accordingly, but the wait's never too long. The service is quick, efficient and friendly. The food is tasty and plentiful.

I had the 5th and Main, my fiance had the BLTA. So so good. They refilled my coffee before it was empty. We were in and out in 30 min and the owner stopped to talk to us when she refilled my coffee. I can definitely see why it gets such great reviews. Great spot downtown.

This diner was on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives so had to try and so glad we did. As we are not from the area, we didn't know our way around downtown LA and this was a little out of the way. But totally worth it. The food is fabulous. The wait staff delightful. And please please please save room for... More

I wandered over here for a Sunday breakfast before flying home and it was exactly as I'd expect: good hearty (but upscale) diner breakfast food, friendly and attentive server, and a cozy atmosphere. As I don't much care for eggs, I went a little bit healthy (fruit bowl), a little bit sensible (cheesy polenta with bacon strip), and (as my... More

Downtown
Downtown Los Angeles is a busy metropolis of towering buildings, bustling streets, and industrial warehouses. There is a distinct multiplicity of cultures here with a growing influx of business professionals and hipsters. Many call the evolution of Downtown over recent years gentrification. New lofts, bars, hotels and restaurants are popping up regularly. Downtown is home to some of the very best restaurants in the city leading the LA foodie scene, plus it is the location of cultural and sports venues including the Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Staples Center, and the Coliseum at the University of Southern California.
