AMAZING!!!

Also had a bowl of Monica's Chicken Pozole. Best soup I've ever had. And soups are some of my favorite foods. Had an assortment of pastries for desert. Not great. Just ok. Homemade Pop Tarts were good. No disrespect to the baker. I'm just not a connoisseur of baked deserts. Although, I have had... read more

The options at Nickel dinner are wonderful whether it be breakfast or lunch. Love the huevos rancheros and the grilled chicken sandwich is wonderful with a bit of heat. Nothing tops their desserts, which are all throwbacks to old time favorites like ding dongs and poptarts... and you just can't get out of there without a bacon maple donut.

LA downtown is going through visible gentrification, and it is not very easy to find ‘an American place’ there. The Nickle Diner seems to keep it old, charming character with old, charming dishes. Staff is more than friendly, food is traditional and delicious.

This place is a gem. DTLA is full of trendy spots that come and go all the time but this place is solid, just like their food. As a veggie, I have plenty of options but especially dig the Smack & Cheese and the onion rings. Meanwhile my carnivore pals seem to always go for the burgers. And of course... More

Called in here on the recommendation of our tour guide. It was very busy and we had a 25 minute wait to get in but the wait was managed well. We went for an interesting walk around the block while waiting. We were after a small snack and one of our daughters was very excited at the prospect of having... More

Ate breakfast here. The food was great. I loved the choice of having polenta instead of potatoes with my eggs. Their homemade jam is yummy. The entire staff was very friendly. This is a great place to eat!

Been wanting to drop into the joint for years, but parking is such a pain in the heart of Downtown LA .. .. Sure glad we did .. .. Told their REUBEN was off-the-menu, so I ordered it and it was the best ever .. .. Soft, delectable and juicy .. .. With horseradish = YUM!! Split the deserts of... More

However, their outstanding pozole soup deserves special mention -- be sure to order it! Their salads (with homemade dressings), hamburgers, french fries, and BLT were all wonderful. We also had their mimosas, and they were a real treat! They are usually very crowded, so expect a wait, but this diner is well worth the wait!

I had breakfast here on a Saturday morning. There was a queue outside and a waiting list (which I took as a good sign), and it only took 15 minutes to get a seat. The place is busy and noisy, perfect for watching life go by while drinking endless cups of american coffee. I the breakfast burrito and it was... More

A small diner, but table flip fast. The burgers were good turkey and beef). Better than any diner burger. The mac and cheese was the best. Has a nice little kick to it. We tried their specialty donut. It was a maple and bacon donut. Kind of weird. Not for us. The service was excellent. It would have to be... More

Staying in Downtown

Neighborhood Profile
Downtown
Downtown Los Angeles is a busy metropolis of towering buildings, bustling streets, and industrial warehouses. There is a distinct multiplicity of cultures here with a growing influx of business professionals and hipsters. Many call the evolution of Downtown over recent years gentrification. New lofts, bars, hotels and restaurants are popping up regularly. Downtown is home to some of the very best restaurants in the city leading the LA foodie scene, plus it is the location of cultural and sports venues including the Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Staples Center, and the Coliseum at the University of Southern California.
