I will keep it short. I travel a lot and eat out even more. This is one of the best restaurants on the planet. Be sure to book ahead of time...way ahead of time. If you even have a remote chance of being in LA, book a table. It is well worth it. P.S. Oxtail poutine and the hamachi tostada... More

Terrific flavor combinations such as Basque cheese and chorizo, sweetbreads and ink black siracha, and pork belly with a non traditional wine list. There were some weak wines and some average dishes but portions are enough to enjoy or only sample if not to taste. Advice! Grow up and bag the hipster urban crowd and vibe or you will be... More

A recent trip to Animal in LA provided me the best meal I've ever eaten. I went with my wife and we ordered 5 dishes as recommended by the waiter. We ate: - duck egg, “toad in a hole,” truffle, english pea, french ham, gruyere - barbeque pork belly sandwiches, slaw - poutine, oxtail gravy, cheddar - crispy sweetbread, JW’s... More

After being recommended Animal by several friends, we knew we had to try it on our visit to LA. I emailed the restaurant a couple of weeks in advance and they got back to me promptly with a confirmation for dinner on the night we had requested. (They even sent a follow up email a few days before we arrived... More

Tries very hard to be hip. No sign outside though precise directions on website. Spare, edgy decor. It's a small plates menu, meant to share. Some items are "hip" like beef tendon chips or pig's ear; other items are interesting presentations of things like yellowtail tuna on a tostada with a large mound of slaw or fried chicken wings in... My daughters are both foodies. One works for an Executive Chef at a Top 3 resort and the other has won praise from Martha.... Both insisted we go to Animal. My wife and I have eaten around the world and rarely have I encountered such a pleasing riot of powerful, rich and varied flavors in dish after dish. From Big... More

Just back from joining 3 friends for a dinner at ANIMAL. Animal serves a 'tapas style' small plate menu, which I must say was tasty. But I must honestly share with the Trip Advisor readers that I WOULD NEVER RETURN to ANIMAL, as the place is too damn noisy and too uncomfortable. I felt that it was designed to be hip,... More

They boast of nose to tail eating and are not joking. The food was creative and all the dishes we had were memorable. Don't ask them to help you choose wine though, our waiter tried and got it 100% wrong. I also enjoyed the concept of ordering lots of dishes to share.

Although, we missed the foie gras ban, there is still plenty to choose from to tantalize your taste buds. My friend and I ordered the fried beef tendon ($15), pigs head ($12), he'e ($13, octopus), marrow ($10) and oxtail poutine w/ cheddar ($18). To accompany all this rich, savory food we chose a 2006 Sudtirol Lagrein from Italy ($70). Our... More

The weirder the types of food the better it tastes. Brains, tongue , pig head for example. Great food! However my wife has a severe peanut allergy. Normally she asks, but didn't this time until we were Into the meal. Turns out they fry in peanut oil. It should be posted on the menu given how many people how have... More
