This is a hipster's interpretation of farm to table. The cooking is well done and the ingredients are fresh. I'd highly recommend rodering and sharing the small plates.

Gjelina was a decent restaurant when it opened a few years ago. The waiters have never been nice (unless you have a look and a chauffeur) but the food was OK, nice mix, we even took the kids. But since it has become a trendy place, the quality went down of course, more people packed in the place, less great... More

Came in at 9ish in the evening without reservation and was seated pretty fast. Service here was impeccable. Attending to your needs, and also introducing the menu to you. Overall, it was a good experience. Just maybe have a brighter candle or some form of lighting to see the menu better! Will come back again.

We went here for breakfast on Monday morning, and while it was not packed, there were definitely quite a few people inside, even during such non peak hour. Interior can be best described as rustic modern and is very warm an inviting. There is also a nice patio in the back. Food was excellent: both blueberry buckwheat pancakes and smoked... More

We had a great meal at Gjelina. Travelling from Australia we wanted something with a real LA vibe and this place was spot on. The food was outstanding. Everything we ate was amazing. Yes, its dark and its noisy, but the great mood, excellent food and knowledgeable staff made this a great overall experience. Highly recommended.

Excellent selection of interesting variations on traditional dishes (for example bagel with cheese ... and also pork belly and egg -- delicious), informal, excellent atmosphere. Highly recommended.

A great modern California hipster menu with some Italian bent to it. Seasonal vegetable dishes are given top-notch treatment (like grilled artichokes served with an anchovy sauce) and there's nose-to-tail pedigree in a delicious beef heart dish. Sit at the bar for a solo lunch amidst the shopping strip of Abbott Kinney Blvd and you won't feel like a jerk... More

Staying in Venice

Neighborhood Profile
Venice
Venice has always danced to its own beat as the epicenter of bohemian culture in Los Angeles. Along the boardwalk there are street performers and local craftsmen selling their wares. Original paintings, souvenirs, and jewelry are on display. Crowds of visitors marvel at the sites while weightlifting enthusiasts pump iron in plain view, and skateboarders do their tricks around the skate park. All of it happens under the warm California sun with sprawling views of sand and sea. Heading east, the main drags of Abbot Kinney Boulevard and Main Street are lined with boutique shops, some major retail stores, art galleries and restaurants. Here the ambiance is more relaxed and upscale than the frenetic boardwalk area. Venice is a mostly walkable (and certainly bikeable) neighborhood, full of areas to explore.
