Great flavorful food...loud

Dinner for 6 on a Monday night. Food was really really good, just a huge amt of flavor. Pizza delicious... A Margarita pizza that actually had some pop to it! Atmosphere was fun....every table was engaged...but be prepared it was LOUD....and very dark. I would recommend.

We sat in the back room because we wanted relative quiet and the patio was full. It was open to the patio so we had nice fresh air. My girlfriend recommended this place as her favorite restaurant in the world and it is the only reservation I made while in LA. It is good for vegetarians but not great. There... More

Very cool and trendy place. Service ok. Nice food (pizza average) and overall great atmosphere... Good selection of wines!

We hade reservations but had to wait about 30 minutes to get our table. Totally ok though since the drinks (The Oaxacan Angel) we ordered while waiting were really good. We were seated outside next to the fire and had a great evening. Ordered a bunch of small plates and dessert. Best was the smokey salmon crudo and the butterscotch... More

We dropped into gjelina's on a Monday evening. We'd been looking forward to it but to be honest it takes itself way too seriously such a disappointment. The meatballs were amazing, the pizza was average and the hoity toity attitude just sucked. Wish I had nicer things to say but we ditched our second reservation for somewhere that might appreciate... We turned up to this restaurant on a random a Tuesday unannounced but highly recommended. Online bookings were full. And bookings at the door were full. But all for good reason. This fantastic farm to mouth sustainable friendly restaurant warmed my heart, warmed my south, and left a feeling in my mouth that would last all night. We tried about... More

If you only have time to eat at one place in Venice, this is one to consider. Always packed. Always a wait. Put your name on the list and go to The Brig, down the block and have a cocktail. Food at Gjelina is best when shared. Get a little bit of everything and share with your friends. Standouts were... More

Once again returned to this friendly place for lunch after a few years absence and found the menu as fresh and healthy as ever. What other place has an appetizer section devoted to vegetables: roasted root vegetables, asparagus, mushrooms. Salads, sandwiches all interesting and appetizing. Staff among the friendliest although they are sometimes so eager to turn the tables that... More

A recent lunch at Gjelina in their back garden was a delight. Three of us arrived a few minutes past 1:30 without a reservation and were seated within 5 minutes. Timing is key--the lunch tables start to turn around then so it's easier then to be seated and the atmosphere is more relaxed (another friend says it's "a zoo" at... More

Staying in Venice

Neighborhood Profile
Venice
Venice has always danced to its own beat as the epicenter of bohemian culture in Los Angeles. Along the boardwalk there are street performers and local craftsmen selling their wares. Original paintings, souvenirs, and jewelry are on display. Crowds of visitors marvel at the sites while weightlifting enthusiasts pump iron in plain view, and skateboarders do their tricks around the skate park. All of it happens under the warm California sun with sprawling views of sand and sea. Heading east, the main drags of Abbot Kinney Boulevard and Main Street are lined with boutique shops, some major retail stores, art galleries and restaurants. Here the ambiance is more relaxed and upscale than the frenetic boardwalk area. Venice is a mostly walkable (and certainly bikeable) neighborhood, full of areas to explore.
