Best Chinese in South Bay/Peninsula

With the large Chinese population in Silicon Valley, it is surprising that there is a true lack of good Chinese restaurants. Chef Chu's is definitely the best in the genre. There's a reason it's always packed. Try the whitefish. It's gluten free and simply awesome. A local institution frequented celebs and dignitaries for decades. Check out the wall of fame.

This is an iconic Restaurant in Los Altos. Many of the patrons are repeat customers who know the owner and the staff very well and are greeted with a very warm welcome. The food is always of high quality and the dishes are what you expect in any chinese restaurant in the states. We always get take out food because... More

We generally do takeout, but occasionally eat in the restaurant. Food is excellent, the best Chinese (American) food I have had, at least on the west coast. What strikes you about the place is that Chief Chu and his family are there. They are always checking quality, asking for comments on dishes, and assuring take-out orders are correct. The kitchen... Good Americanized Chinese food. Have large party room too. Parking is always challenging though. Second parking available about 300 feet from restaurant.

It's my retirement luncheon with the gang from work. -in this case 21 of 38 available people -the other 17 are anti-social types and won't be missed! We are on our way to Chef Chu's, with me being chauffeured in a car with 3 Chinese women and 1 Russian lady, all seniors over the age of 50 -the younger ladies... More

Somehow the Peninsula has been unable to produce excellent Asian food, whether is be Japanese or Chinese. We have not been back to Chef Chu's for many years, since we ordered steamed barbecued pork buns...which were terrible. When we told our waiter he admitted that it was made elsewhere and heated by them. Anyway, this time the food was good....a... More

The Mongolian Beef is always outstanding with a high cut of beef. I've never gotten a headache from Chef Chu's unlike other Chinese restaurants.

I have had Chinese food at Chef Chu's since mid-1970s. It has consistently offered great Chinese dishes with courteous service. This name comes to my mind when I think of Chinese food in the south-bay. Almost forty years later, I still see the same level of service.

Bit overpriced, and lathered in oil. The food was good for chinese, but certainly not gourmet. I may return but it is dear too.
