Beer mugs straight from the freezer, cheap bar snacks, friendly atmosphere - what more is there to ask. The hot-dog sandwich was good, the pickled eggs surprisingly tasty and its been a long time since I have been in a bar with a shuffle board table. Taken there by a friend, walked in with a little trepidation at first because... More

found this place by accident but what a gem. turns out it is the oldest bar and long beach and it shows: die-hard regular type place, and veteran bartenders. love the old timey feel, non pretentious, and the bartenders are always a good chat. pretzels go for free, and you must try the pickle eggs. (don´t be scared!) their hot... More

Ice cold mugs of beer, Joe's special sandwich and the people watching. This is the consummate dive bar and cannot be beat. This place is a must if you are in the Long a Beach area.

Great atmosphere, friendly bartenders and outstanding food. A great place, can't wait to go back. The offerings (beer, wine and a few simple food items) might be simple, but whatever we tried was just delicious.

My husband has been here several times but this was my first. It's been around since 1924. They have their own ancient peanut roaster and roast them from scratch. Delish! There's all kinds of beers on the menu as this is a true retro 'dive bar' (I mean that in the best way). A moment of history suspended in the... More

After hearing a lot of stories from friends, I finally made it here. This is the oldest bar in Long Beach and I can see why. They still have the 28 F beers & it's a must try. I was so amazed seeing all the pictures on the wall of people from different places using their shirt. That's why I... More

YES-GOOD-GO TO JOE'S. When you recover, go again! And again! Back in '87, I was in Jr. high algebra seated behind a fellow student wearing a Joe Jost's t-shirt. I drew the logo, and the kid wearing the t-shirt, and the entire classroom as the teacher droned on about exponents & integers. Then one day I saw the storefront out... More

Josts is an LBC tradition. Schooners of beer to wash down a pickled egg or two and you are set. Fun place with the look of a dive bar. Not fine dining but fun dining

Every time I'm in the LA area I make it to Joe's for a few beers, some peanuts and regular local faces. Great place to catch up, relax, catch a game and enjoy the "cold" beer. But remember, bring cash or use the ATM - as no credit cards accepted here.

Old and unchanged, great atmosphere. A classic that should never be renovated or changed. It has been around since the 30s or 40s and has had students use it for movies, to play pool, to eat and drink.
