I had read about this funky restaurant in Sunset Magazine. This now gas station and general store was named Peg House because of the Danish construction techniques using pegs instead of nails to join the hand hewn beams. It is a landmark on 101. Inside the Peg House is a general store that is packed to the ceiling with chachkies... More

Bought a glow in the dark lizard, after having driven too long on the 101, stopped working after the first week. Lot of touristy junk but some interesting things as well. I've always liked looking around inside, even the ceiling is alive. But don't ever eat here, $5 breakfast burrito, good portion but $5? Not as bad as the so-called... More

It does not look much from the road. You must stop. You order cold sandwiches inside. Out on the patio, you order hot sandwiches. The salmon burger is outstanding. My hubby and son liked their hamburgers. The coleslaw is delish. The bathrooms...well they in another building but you have two options. Once you walk beyond the patio, there is a... More

My husband and I stopped here just to grab a water and some snacks from the store. While in line a guy mentioned the barbecue in the back. We decided to check it out. Best decision we could have made. We had an awesome meal, the lady that waited on us was very friendly ( I was sorry to hear... More

You have to try their salmon burger or BBQ oysters, written up in Sunset mag a few years back. Perfect with the ice-tea-lemonade combo. Totally laid back outdoor walk-up, seating under shadecloth, room for the kids to run circles.

While on a road trip meandering around the coast, we happened along The Peg House, and decided to stop. It is deceiving from the front. When you walk into the back patio area it just sort of "opens up". There were a lot of picnic tables under a large parachute, and the zinnias were home to numerous hummingbirds. The food........ We chose to stop here as it fit in with our lunch time, we read some great reviews and there wasn't much else around. It was perfect weather to sit outside, there is only outside seating except there were a ton of bees. I had a burger, it was awesome. My husband had a salmon burger. He wasn't THAT impressed... Stop in for the delicious breakfast burritos (they're huge with big chunks of potato and other deliciousness), the brownies and the oatmeal cookies. An eclectic little store with friendly staff!

Large proportions, cheeseburgers were very good, outdoor seating. Only complaint was a very full & dirty porta potty
