Old School Hip Dining

Zoolu was a happening restaurant in the 1990's and really hasn't changed that much. It's like a time machine. Remember when portions were really big. The wedge salad I had for an appetizer was enough for a meal. I had to try the meatloaf. That turned into 3 meals with the doggy bag I took home... read more

Fabulous food. We split the swordfish 3 ways and still couldn't finish it. We started our meal with some lovely wine and then had the salad with falafel which was divine. Love this restaurant. Great service too.

I really enjoyed the laid back vibe of the wait staff, and the main cook being in main front room. the food speaks for itself. It is absolutely the ONLY place to get the best swordfish around. Love Love Love this place.

Outstanding seafood dinner on a Laguna Beach backstreet. When I arrived, the place was nearly empty but I was told I could take one seat at the counter - everything else was "reserved". But, that gave me a front row seat to watch Chef Michael Leech do his magic, lovingly cutting his slabs of fish and grilling them to perfection.... More

Whether you are a local or just passing through -- make sure you have a meal at the Zoolu! Small little hole in the wall a block from the PCH. We have been here a number of times -- hard to get in -reservations are a MUST. Started with the calamari appetizer which was not like any you will have... More

An out of the way place that the locals like. Swordfish is their specialty. Mine was with the macademia nut sauce, absolutely delicious. Careful, they are huge portions. On the menu they list the split charge. We did that and still had leftovers! Make reservations as it is a small place and it packs out!

This was a spot recommended by a friend. Its a small place with a hippie van out front (which belongs to the owner and chef. I had the fro swordfish. It was out of this world. Also try the calamari. Best I've ever eaten. Two and split a small appetizer. Really good food. Need a reservation.

We had heard about Cafe Zoolu from friends, who had not been, but had read about it. It was described as casual with really good food. It sounded just right for a lazy Sunday afternoon. We made a reservation for 5:00 p.m. thinking we didn't really need one. When we arrived there were only three patrons in the restaurant. But... More

We walked in no reservation, (next time we will make them), but he had a table we could have for an hour! Cool vibe, casual, $$$! One relief room, lol! We split ahi, yummy. Big portions so split! Can't wait to go back.

Our visit came on the recommendations of locals and it was without a doubt, wonderful. The swordfish and seabass were the best we ever had. Its a cool little place thats big on great food prepared by the owner. Its not about frills, its about a great meal and good people. We're from Connecticut and will definitely be back on... More
