If you want a top quality french meal and live in the East Bay, Chevalier is your best bet. The entire meal was first rate. We both had the rack of lamb..cooked to perfection with a great sauce and perfect side dishes. Excellent wine list too. It's pricey but worth the cost for a special meal.

We relied on Tripadvisor to find a restaurant in the East Bay and I want to thank all the previous reviewers for their excellent advice! The soup, the salad, the entrees, the desserts, the bread--each dish was fabulous. Well worth a trip to Lafayette.

Despite the odd trapezoidal dinning room, the inspired yet traditional French food that emerges from the kitchen is excellent. The home-made country pate is simply the best I've had in the US. Wines are reasonable & delicious and are served by friendly and well informed staff. A very good find.

We visit Chevalier several times a year, and can't wait to go back after each visit. Chef Philippe Chevalier brings south of France to the East Bay. The restaurant has an impressive wine list; always uses the best quality ingredients; and the staffs are professional and personable. We love dining in the garden. Inside seating is very nice as well,... More

This is a very authentic restaurant with a mix of classic dishes and four of us all enjoyed our meal. My only complaint is the pricing on liquor. A pour of Johnny Walker Black was $14 and it was not a generous serving. This is hotel pricing and not what I would expect in a local restaurant. Similar pricing on... More

Having lived in France, I am always attracted to authentic French restaurants. Chevalier offers a peak into the countryside with the beautifully prepared French courses. The outdoor patio is pretty and the heaters keep diners warm even on cool evenings. My salad with duck livers was divine, although the duck a l’orange entrée tasted similar to the duck liver salad... we have been here several times, with and without the kids. pretty expensive place to take the kids; but worth it on special occasions. the kids loved the escargot, the specialty dishes are always first rate. the wine selection is great, and the desserts are wonderful. we always have a great waitperson and have zero complaints!

Yes, a fancy French restaurant in little old Lafayette may seem out of place. Yes, it is expensive. Yet what's being overlooked is that the location feels like you are indeed somewhere in the French countryside, and that the food is absolutely exquisite. We've dined here several times, and each time it feels exactly the way you'd expect at a... More

This was my second visit, the first having been a good experience. We were a party of six celebrating my wife's birthday. The ambience of the restaurant is very nice even though it is located in a strip mall. We were promptly seated and it took almost a half hour before we saw our server and were asked about cocktails.... More

My wife and I went here for our anniversary dinner expecting a fine French restaurant and we were disappointed. The atmosphere is nice but the food disappoints as does the service. We waited 45 minutes after being seated and taking our orders before they served us bread and they weren't that busy when we arrived. My wife had the escargot... More
