VERY Good!!

While in the area we decided to be bold and try Ukrainian-Russian food and the Village House Kalina did NOT disappoint! The service was very good. It is hard to find any Ukrainian food in San Diego, let alone good, authentic dishes. This restaurant is a lot more Russian than Ukrainian, but the similarities are close enough and the food is amazing! I've taken friends there for Ukrainian Christmas the last few years, so that they can "taste the food of my ancestors". I've also recommended... More

Five family members met for a late lunch at the Village House on Cinco de Mayo of all days! My husband had scouted out its location since it is somewhat off the beaten track. But what a find! As my daughter-in-law kept saying, "It's like being in someone's home!" We started with the salad sampler which included six different salads;... More

We just found this tiny restaurant tucked inside a small shopping center. They do not have a liquor license, but you can bring your own in with no corkage fee. That being said, they do carry an interesting variety of nonalcoholic drinks. We tried the pear soda which is light and refreshing, and not too sweet like American sodas. We... More

It's a little hole-in-the-wall between the 7-11 Store and a taco shop on the frontage road at Jackson and Fletcher Parkway -- easy to miss. But don't miss it. This Ukrainian restaurant is worth the drive. All of the waitresses seem eager to please, some with limited English, and the interior is like a large room in a country dacha.... More

Very good and authentic Russian & Ukrainian restaurant. Well prepared and tasty. I speak Russian with the owner and employees. Try the Borjomi sparkling water.

Going to this restaurant is like going to someone's home. I say that in a good way, meaning the place has a homey feel to it. The plates, dishes, cups, silverware are all mis-matched. Heck, even the table and chairs were mis-matched (the table was too low, needed to lean over to eat). The food presentation is not there, but... More
