Description: Manhattan of La Jolla transports you to the best of New York via the cozy, upscale village of La Jolla. Located in the Empress Hotel on Fay Avenue, it is an elegant, casual and classy place where you would expect to see Old Blue Eyes or Danny Ocean romancing a beautiful woman while she sips her Cosmo over dinner. With quality Italian charm, Manhattan offers classic cocktails that get you into that New York swing--and the entrees are as good as it gets. Liberal olive oil, garlic, lemon and pepper complement the Zagat Award winning veal chop, steaks and seafood. Signature scampi, classic cannelloni, pasta al dente, and other succulent dishes, plus professional service and decor make this a terrific spot for a romantic dinner or mixing business and pleasure. Manhattan in La Jolla gets you the best of both worlds. Manhattan is an award winning La Jolla favorite, celebrating its 25th year.

We all love Italian food and this was simply one of the best we have had hence the 5 stars. Easy parking and great service make it a relaxing experience vs the intense atmosphere of some of the other restaurants in La Jolla. Only faux pas was our host saying we did not need a drinks menu as they had... More

I am a big fan of Italian food so my local friends recommended Manhattan during a recent visit. Being a Red Sox fan, I was a bit suspicious at the name, but that only lasted until I entered. The mostly brick walls are very tastefully decorated with some intriguing artwork. Lighting is perfect for intimate dining and acoustics are very... More

My husband and I were in the mood for Italian food and a bartender told us about Manhattan and we were delighted. We feel like we found a special secret place in La Jolla. This is not your typical beach type restaurant with a view. As other reviewers have mentioned, it felt like an old New York Italian restaurant-dark and... More

Nancy our concierge at La Valencia told us about this place and the feel of Frank Sinatra and that era made the evening. I love the food and the waiter was great (from the east coast but been in La Jolla for a while). You have to have the Caesar salad made at the table and the ravioli's were great.... More

Rhonda and I had an early dinner on July 4, 2014. Our regular waiter Ara Scalini was off but another did well, including excellent assistants. We had repeats of items we have had over the years. The cheesecake seemed to be a bit different than from a year ago and had an excellent texture and flavor. All portions continue to... More

This place offers typical, but well prepared and well served, Northern Italian standards. Don't look for inventive here! The effort to create an anachronism works and doesn't feel contrived, phony or gimmicky. What has been created is the feeling of something familiar, homey and the pleasantness of eating comfort food. But this does not mean to imply a lack of... More

Normally do not eat in hotel restaurants. So glad we did. While Manhattan is in the Empress hotel it is privately owned and managed. Service was impeccable. Best veal steak I have had in 10 years. Wife's halibut was to die for. Caesar salad made from scratch at your table. Don't miss the cheese cake. We travel 4 months a... More
