Went here for lunch on recommendation from some friends. Get there early as there was a line already formed when we arrived at 11:30 for opening. Service was prompt and food was delivered quickly. This is the first Japanese restaurant that actually reminded me of the small mom and pop places in Japan. The food is simply excellent! Nothing fancy... More

This restaurant was recommended by some of our Japanese friends for the excellent udon and soba. The food certainly did not disappoint, but the waiting list if you have a party larger than 4 people can be quite daunting. I would recommend the lunch combinations...very reasonable for the amount and quality of food. Our preference for the udon is to... More

Fukada is a terrific little spot in Irvine for soba and udon. The noodles are home made by the owner and the care and craft that goes into them. Do get here early (if for lunch). We arrived at 11:20AM and were still well down the sigh-in list, but we got in for the first seating anyway. You have your... More

We went there for dinner and ordered the sashimi salad, their noodle soup plus the spicy tuna don. Everything was so delicious especially the spicy tuna don - it was one of the best I ever had while the other best was in a restaurant in Sapporo, Hokkaido. The servie was very good just like what you would normally expect... More

This place sometimes has a wait, but we usually get there early enough to avoid the line. To put your name on the list, there is a piece of paper near the front door. No need to give your name to a hostess. The udon is pretty darn good and that is usually what I order. The noodles, the broth,... More

After eating at Fukada once on a business trip it went into my "got to try it again" list. Missed it on my next trip as they are only opened on selected dining segment hours and not continuously. Hit it again this trip and the experience was great again. The restaurant is small and it does get a lot of... More

I agree with others that this restaurant really does an outstanding job at making wonderfully tasting food and treating the customer well. The food reminds me of what yummy homemade Japanese food tastes like, not stuff ready to eat from a box or bag. There can be a long waiting list so be warned, but despite the crowd, the chefs... The restaurant is usually very busy but if you go a little earlier for lunch or dinner you should be able to get in without much of a wait. They use organic ingredients, offer brown rice and iced green tea. You can't go wrong with the combinations that they offer. I usually get the seafood salad with the spicy tuna... More
