I ordered the quesadilla and all it had was meat and cheese. No lettuce, tomato or vegetables. Kind of a bummer. The food everyone else got was good though, so was the fried ice cream. Service was terrific, very nice bunch!

This little gem recently updated the dining area to make it even cozier, prettier and friendlier. Service is just fine. One feels like a visitor to a family's kitchen. Food is terrific. Don't miss the shrimp stuffed chilies appetizer and make sure you receive the instructions on how to eat it. Other favorite is the spareribs with nopales, chile rellenos... More

I'm only here in this area in the winter and I look forward to going to El Mexicali just for the shrimp stuffed yellow chilies....AMAZING! I'm not the only one, they bring out platter after platter of them. The place is really popular and really small so be prepared to maybe wait. It's also REALLY noisy so this is not... More

I use Trip Advisor to find good restaurants and have had very good luck throughout my travels. El Mexicalli was an exception to that statement, We ordered the ground beef enchilada special the waiter brought the Chips & Salsa the salsa was very good but the chips were over fried almost bitter tasting, the soup was good it came with... This site is the original site. Mexicali II in north Indio has a lot more room. Lots of good dishes - I have eaten here for years, Chiles gueritos are the best!

I live in Indio,Calif. I have eaten in this restaurant several times as well as their other one in Indio. The shrimp stuff peppers are unique and outstanding and if you go their for the peppers you will not be disapointed. However the rest of the food is just not very good. Last trip i ordered the fajitas and they were... More

Had lunch there a couple of days ago for the first time. Excellent food and service....will certainly go back and highly recommend it to anyone who loves real Mexican food. Try the peppers stuffed with shrimp.

This is your typical small, family Mexican restaurant; spare decor, small inside, but awesome food! :) We have been to Mexican restaurants all over California, and my parents have been to Mexican restaurants all over the states, and we agreed it was some of the best. My parents went back a few days later they enjoyed it so much.

Forget ambiance and decor - however, the food was great and service excellent. Start with the shrimp stuffed chilies - lemon juice, soy sauce, mayonnaise??? Somehow it works. Fun way to end the vacation in Palm Springs -
