A lovely little restaurant with excellent food and service, but the highlight for me is always the shrimp stuffed peppers. They are absolutely delicious. The margaritas are excellent too. This is really a gem of a restaurant, not to be missed.

Every winter I visit California and El Mexicali café is my first restaurant of choice ...can hardly wait to have "Chiles Gueritos de Camarónes" again! They have a good selection of various Mexican dishes, and you can make your own combination from the á la carte section. I've been there for lunch and dinner, and the food is consistently good.... above average Mexican food. small, clean restaurant. shrimp-stuffed yellow peppers and ceviche were excellent and fish was fresh. top shelf margaritas were pricey, but good. would come back for more.

We met some local friends here for lunch and it was delicious. They insisted we have the shrimp appetizers, and despite how wierd they sounded, they were yummy. We added the mayo, lemon and soy sauce just like they told us. An overall delicious meal, and it was taco Tuesday, so there were some discounts.

we went to El Mexicali today, go every year, especially for the chills gueritos rellenos de cameron. They are unusual and delicious. We had very good service , knowing we couldn't eat a full meal each, our waitress suggested we share, and they plated the meal for us , no extra charge. It's not fancy but clean and the food and... The Shrimp poppers were one of the best appetizers I have experienced anywhere in the world!. No return visit to the little 34 year old neighborhood Mexican Resturante will ever go without this treat. Small space but not to small for two mariachi singers to join the evening crowd and take recommendations from the diners as well as play popular... More

My first experience at this restaurant was really great, so we went back last week for a repeat. Unfortunately, I found the food and the service to be nowhere near the quality as before. Also, the restaurant was unbelievably loud. I do like their chips and salsa, but they don't give enough salsa at all.

Went last week to the Indio Blvd. location ( original ) Very busy with loud crowds and 2 mariachi singers playing ( fun atmosphere )!!! Always amazes me how different the people and the atmosphere can be from one visit to another...? We always get the fabulous "Shrimp stuffed peppers"... WOW! So Yummy! Disappointed in the "Super steak quesadilla" though...!... More

We arrived on a Thursday night at about 6 P.M. The place is so small we almost drove by it. One long table had six or eight diners. Two other tables were occupied by four diners each, and there were perhaps four other customers. We sat at a table near the far wall away from both televisions. In addition to... More

Thank you for taking the time to leave us your thoughtful review. We're happy our staff could accommodate to your request. The lively atmosphere, including the unique elements of the passing train and small interior quarters, are a signature of our historical, down-home, no-frills location. We know not all diners welcome these particular charms and appreciate that you decided to... More
