Went to this small restaurant for my birthday dinner after reading great reviews. It is unexpectedly small inside, but they accommodated our party of 6 with no problem and no reservations. Nothing fancy, but when the food came out we were all more than pleased! The enchilada sauce was just how I like it and not like the dark brown... More

chips were stale, salsa was better than food, margaritas were tasty, made up special extra hot salsa, service was attentive and friendly, food was less than a robust flavor. an OK place if you are OK with someone what bland tasting Mexican fare.

For Coachella month we go to this restaurant every week. The stuffed peppers are standard. You will never eat any anywhere as good. A chavela makes it a perfect meal. The staff is friendly and hard working. We even think the train passing and rumbling the building is part of the charm. Everything on the menu is great, but don't... More

Location a little different but great food, fantastic, friendly, extremely efficient service! Will definitely go there every time I am in the area and would recommend it to everyone!

If you don't get the shrimp stuff peppers then you missed it. Order one or two before your meal. There is also a Mexicali II that is located on Monroe where you will find a better atmosphere.

This is an authentic Mexican food restaurant. The Chili Verde is great along with the wonderful service, loads of parking and good chips and salsa. Please don't miss it.

El Mexicali doesn't look like much from the outside. It's located on a busy highway right next to the railroad tracks but don't let outward appearances put you off. This is a great restaurant for Mexican food. They serve shrimp stuffed gueritos peppers that are fantastic. They serve these with soy sauce and mayonnaise! I know it sounds weird but... More

This restaurant serves excellent Mexican food and is family-owned and has been in existence for years. The clientele varies by time of day; the locals tend to predominate at breakfast while the vacationers and part-year residents come later in the day. The portions are generous. My wife is partial to the cerviche, which is large enough for an entire meal.... More

I am not a fan of Mexican food, but while in California, thought I should try an authentic Mexican restaurant. Well I did and it was very good. The place is very basic, but was packed. We ended up sitting at the counter and observed the staff closely. They work so hard!!!! Service was great. My companion asked for all... More

The only disappointment we have is that it's not located in our home town!!!! Great food! A must to start off with the shrimp/peppers! A very unique dish, we've never experienced anything like it before! The waitress showed us how to 'dress' our shrimp peppers with lemon/soy sauce and Mayo! We were surprised and shocked at how wonderful they were!... More
