We specialize in serving authentic Mexican food from secret family recipes, including seafood specialties, plus cocktails from a full bar! Our Chiles Gueritos are a popular local favorite - shrimp stuffed yellow peppers topped with mayo and soy sauce. Our restaurant offers a unique dining experience that's just like eating at home with family and friends. The "Shake, Rattle, and Roll" of the trains passing by on the train tracks behind us is also something you'll never forget! Opened in 1981, El Mexicali Cafe on Indio Blvd. Is one of the longest-running woman-owned eateries in the Coachella Valley. El Mexicali Cafe Day was establishes on March 19 in the City of Indio, and you can typically count on something special at the restaurant to celebrate the occasion.

Friendly family run place

We enjoy this restaurant. Their shrimp stuffed peppers are amazing. They also have low carb dishes and skinny margaritas. Their happy hour deals are great also.

A hidden Gem. Went there saturday and sunday for breakfast. We tried the Green sauce Chilaquiles and Chili Verde Egg plate on saturday. the Chili Relleno and Potatos with chorizo and eggs. Everything was great. From the refried beans and tortillas, coffee to the very last drop. Nothing was left. The friendly service from Lupe and the other waitresses made... More

The Poppers, margaritas and service are excellent. My family and I never pass this place when traveling to the River! We have had just about everything on menu. Don't skip it, or it will be your loss!

Very small approx. 20 tables. We didn't have to wait for a seat getting here before the Sunday Lunch rush. Food was hot and delicious. Chips and Salsa were complimentary. Will stop again on our way back through. Only negative comment I have, bathrooms are located outside of restaurant and have NO air conditioning.

This is going to become one of my three favorite Mexican restaurants in the Desert! We had chile verde and their trademark dish, chile gueritos. Chile verde is a faithful version, nicely prepared...the chile gueritos is out of this world. It is yellow chiles stuffed with shrimp and then you add lemon, soy sauce!, and mayo! True fusion and wonderful.... More

We ate here with family one night while traveling through the area. It was recommended by our hotel clerk and again, the local suggestion was great. We were lucky to get a table as there was live music that night and the place was packed. The food was authentic Mexican style and very good. The "band" consisted of two older... More

This is a small, family run restaurant (they have a 2nd one which I have not tried). The food is authentic, the service is excellent and the decor is divey (like many family run restaurants in Baja). A good variety of selections and there is bar service. Locals love this place and we found it to be the best small... More

A lovely little restaurant with excellent food and service, but the highlight for me is always the shrimp stuffed peppers. They are absolutely delicious. The margaritas are excellent too. This is really a gem of a restaurant, not to be missed.

Every winter I visit California and El Mexicali café is my first restaurant of choice ...can hardly wait to have "Chiles Gueritos de Camarónes" again! They have a good selection of various Mexican dishes, and you can make your own combination from the á la carte section. I've been there for lunch and dinner, and the food is consistently good....
