We were traveling on I-10 and needed to stop for lunch but didn't want the usual chain restaurants so we found the Mexicali Cafe II and were pleased with the food there. I had the chile relleno (unlike another reviewer, I found it quite good, and I am familiar with chile rellenos). My companion had the peppers stuffed with shrimp... More

Worst Chile Relleno EVER! Undercooked and full of seeds. Food took forever, then when came, plate was barely warm. Third time there. Went from good to bad to worse. Waitress offered 10% discount, which was approx $3.00, c'mon. Definitely will not be going back and will not recommend

This is just what it says it is a Mexican cafe. It is located in a strip mall near the 10. The food is good. I had the shrimp stuffed peppers for lunch and returned a couple days later for the breakfast which was just okay. This is a good spot for lunch if you are in the area.

Stopped in for lunch and had an average meal. Salsa was spicy and didn't agree with me. The burritos were just OK and did not come with a whole lot of extras and did not come with whole beans but refried like most restaurants so nothing special. Wine was good however. Service was Excellent. The place was clean and large... More

Chips and quite spicy salsa. Dennis had 2 enchiladas (shredded beef) + beans & rice. Pam had 1 shredded beef taco and one chicken enchilada. Beef was excellent and very flavorful; chicken was just chicken; beans were almost white in color, but very tasty.

Service is attentive and friendly. The food is fresh and delicious. Try the pepper stuffed with shrimp. It is served over a bed of salad. The margaritas are strong and delicious.

GREAT Mexican food where the locals eat. Good prices and spicy food. Great salsa. Good service. Close to freeway entrance/exit.

Went the first time and it was great. Went a second time and brought our son telling him how great this restaurant was. He asked for a spicy shrimp dish and it was not even slightly spicy. The waitress brought him some extra sauce which was gloppy and it wasn't spicy either. Overall the sauce was like canned tomato sauce... More

My husband and I went to the newest El Mexicali Cafe in La Quinta, on Washington St. across from the big Catholic church. I'd heard we had to try the stuffed peppers and they were so good! This time of year, they are kind of spicy but they are really interesting and GOOD! Stuffed with shrimp - lots of them!... More

Like its sister location, El Mexicali II is just great. Some of the best Mexican food in the area. The peppers stuffed with shrimp are THE BEST. Also, I highly recommend the fish (broiled) tacos! Very nice staff and great location!
