Beautifully presented and delicious food.

I enjoyed one of their specials (tamal) and a strawberry agua fresca. I found both to be fresh and satisfying. The agua fresca was different from your ordinary, but still like it. The portions are just enough and the food is beautifully presented. They source their ingredients locally, which is... read more

If you're thinking traditional Mexican food, you're in for a surprise.! For example , Mateo's version of a taco, a "Tacone" , is a series of cones with delicious fillings (See photo). (I had missed the tacones the first time we dined here, and was chagrinned to find that almost all the diners around us had ordered it!!Worth coing back... More

My wife and i have eaten at Mateo's three times. We were intrigued the first time because Yucatan flavors were new to us and surprised the second time because newness had been replaced by a realization that the flavors lacked complexity. We returned a third time to break the tie...and were truly bored by the meal. We started with queso... More

If you're of Latin heritage from the Americas and are familiar with traditional food from the Yucatan Peninsula and the caliber of high end European restaurants (e.g., Relais de l'Entrecôte Saint Germain, Le Bouchon et L'Assiette), then you will be a new self-procliamed #1 fan of Chef Mateo! This restaurant was an accidental find for us whilst in wine country... More

Wait staff were sweet, the only ok thing about this restaurant (see for example yelp reviews). Water was warm. Atmosphere dominated by bartender who alternated between twirling towel around his finger.with a way too inappropriately obvious eyeballing the female customers, with unnecessarily dramatic LOUD shaking of drinks so it was impossible to hear even ones own dinner companion. After oversalted... More

I love restaurants that take chances, that will give new “twists” on food or try new dishes for their patrons. So I definitely like Mateo’s. This place is positioned as serving unique versions of Yucatan cuisine using local ingredients. Our group had the five course menu du jour and with one exception it worked fabulously. The food was served family... More

Passed by this place on a wine walk and headed back for drinks after the walk. Nice restaurant that offered some small meals for the drinks. Would love to come back here again.

We've visited Mateo's many times and has been a favorite, but that has changed. Our experience started with a rude hostess who made us feel like she was doing us a favor to seat us when we said we didn't have reservations, though most tables were empty and we checked Open Table just minutes before and it showed it was... The chef at this high end Mexican restaurant is greatly influenced by the flavors of the Yucatan. Our food was made from fresh ingedients and served expertly. The flavors of chiles and fresh vegetables were delightful to the palate. We had lunch. The food exceeded our expectations. My wife ordered an Atumn Margerita which included fresh cilantro, jalapeño, tequila, lime juice... More

This place specializes in Yucatan cuisine, which places it a cut above (or perhaps makes it more distinctive) from the usual Mexican restaurants. The appetizers that come in a unique "taco-cone" are especially appealing, as are the ceviches. Drinks are reasonably priced, and the service friendly and attentive.
