This was a spur of the moment choice. It seems more for locals then tourists. As a Californian who loves Mexican food I wasn't overly impressed, but the price was good.
I do takeout here a lot--very good, authentic Mexican at pretty good prices. Sit down is nice too, they have an attractive interior if you want to eat in. This is a good alternative to the more expensive, upscale, downtown Healdsburg restaurants.
My partner and I spent a lot of time looking into the "Mexican" Restaurants while visiting Healdsburg Plaza. We were hungry and looking for a "hole-in-the-wall" Mexican cafe and was delighted to find El Sombrero. I didn't mind going to the counter to order. The menu was not large but since we only wanted cheese enchiladas, it was perfect for... More
This was the last restaurant we visited during our most recent trip to Healdsburg. Good thing too, because if we had gone there first, it might have been the only one we tried the whole trip! Good, authentic Mexican food at an economical price - the latter being hard to find in downtown Healdsburg! After many small plates and other,... More
In a recent article in our local paper, a prominent chef of a high-tone restaurant said this was his favorite Mexican eatery in town. I've eaten at all of them and had settled on El Taco Grande as by far the best, but it had been a long time...so I retried El Sombrero. You order standing up, get a table... More
Any long time residents will tell you that now days in Healdsburg you will pay too much for too little and what your paying for is just being in our quaint little town of Healdsburg. By the way thank you for visiting and spending your hard earned money here. We truly appreciate it! El Som is the best! Save some... More
Healdsburg, plaza area Mexican Casual setting; casual customer base Tasty food at reasonable prices Nice alternative to a day of wine tasting or over-priced eateries Loved the pork al pastor Good enchiladas & spicy salsa Aguas frias & beer Friendly service
Yes, good enough food. Atmosphere is poor, and the outside sidewalk seating is not clean - - - no one cleans off the sidewalk so grease marks are everywhere. Many local Hispanics eat here so it seemed like a good place to check out. Old chairs and typical diner tables... so, good enough, but I would get the food "To... More
One of the best taquerias in Norther CA. Most Mexican restaurants in Northern California are ok at best. El Sombrero is the exception, this family run taqueria has great food and service.
